Getting a 3-series

Guys,

Please updates if anyone of you guys have tested the 320d. How;s the engine performance, what are the accesories etc..tht would be helpful.

No matter how technology advances, the traditional benefit of torque remain for diesel engines, its ideal for load, climb or slow cruising at high gear, which if course do a lot of good to your FC.

So what is all this "Efficient Dynamic" is all about? The technology behind "Efficient Dynamic" goes a lot further than just converting from petrol to diesel.

Some of the salient feature of "Efficient Dynamic":
~ Engine stop when car stationary
~ Kidney grille with motorised flap to shut when engine is not hot to improve aerodynamic of the car
~ Brake air duct shuts when brake is not hot to improve aerodynamic of the car
~ Break regenerative energy, a.k.a. KERS
~ Electric Power Steering, no power consumption when car moving straight as opposed to hydraulic type when it constantly dragging the engine thru the belt drive system.

Okay, here's what I notice from 320d upon close inpection:
~ Still carry a power steering hydraulic fluid reservoir and saw the belt driven pump under the aircond compressor
~ No motorised kidney grille
~ No brake air duct at all, if I'm not mistaken. Good for "Efficient Dynamic".. Great! A performance car without brake cooling air duct, my N46B20 ada ma!
~ Does the engine shut by itself upon stationary? Haven't test drive a unit though.. Don't think so because to restart the engine, its triggered when driver press the clutch to engage gear, here all no clutch ma.. Anyway, don't think this feature is suitable in our tropical climate.

So "Efficient Dynamic" in Malaysia term is just shutting brake air duct and use diesel instead of petrol.. how cool! Perhaps those other "Efficient Dynamic" feature are meant for other models.. I'm just referring to 320d.

Btw, VIOS all variants now is already on "EPS", Electric Power Steering.. :top:

Im going to write about my journey in getting a 3 series so rather to start a new thread i feel why not i just have a short post here..

Been admiring BMW's since i was very very young and only a few years back i had the opportunity to go for it..so since then i have been looking for a bimmer but maintenance and cost of owning it diverts my mind to new A4 and C200k and also Golf Gti...at one point i had even booked the new A4 and get the money back after few weeks...lucky the SA is my good friend or else sure burn one...then i test drove 325 sports and what can i say more as you all should know tht no other models i have mentioned will come close to this beautiful car with its refined NA engine...My wife got tired of my bullshit since i have been saying gonna buy this and that car...so she just standby the ear plug everytime i talk about cars...

Finally got fed up about 2 weeks ago and decided to get a 3 so called AB Glenmarie...talk to a SA, then next morning drove all the to Glenmarie from Penang....saw a 325 sports Titanium silver/grey below 2k milleage registered on July 09:love:...happy with the car and got it for 273k with free Vkool..:top:.placed booking and loan approved after few days...Now standing by for tuesday to get the car back home... flying from here and driving back...gonna be fun and exciting trip :top:

So im taking this opportunity to thank all the forummers especially the experiance ones on the success on poisoning me into this machine...and hope i can catch up with you guys soon on any TT's or drive...

Congratulations VKS.. I too just took ownership of my 1st BMW 320i SE on 08/10 for $195k; 11 months + with only 17k mileage... still has 1 year or 60,000km warranty + 2 years BSRI. It's a damn cool ride bro and I'm sure you will enjoy every minute of it driving back to Penang; especially since yours is a more powerful dream machine compared to mine :top:

Update:

Reached airport @2pm yersterday..pickep up by the SA...
Did full check on the car...superb look after Carnuba and other service..
Paperworks and signature here and there..
Some user training given by the SA about the car operation..

Finally my time has come around 6pm....whack the car up to Penang...
Only thing I was doing was smiling all the way......
Feels like I have just fallen in love again...

It has been an interesting month for me in December. On the 14th December, I finally get hold of the dream machine a 323 after years on envy, admiring and fantasy of driving one some day. And on that particular day, I can't believe myself I am looking at one parked in front of my house with it's famous double kidney grille.

And today, 28th December, my wife safely delivered our first baby, a son! Looks like my son will inherit my tradition of owning a BMW and he will loves it when he grows up later.

A double joy indeed!

VKS...u whack ur car to Penang at what speed??? cannot push to hard initially. must be gentle , i mean no speeding above 180km/hr.

Rachel, mine is almost 2k on the odometer when i recieve the car so i guess the run in period is over by then..did an oil and filter change as well so its ok to run i think...While i was on the highway at one point i called the SA asking if theres any problem with the speedometer since 200km/h looked slow to me..:stupid:
