Gear Box Indicator

Had my E46 sometimes last year, 2nd hand, year 2002 CKD. Once got the car, already spend about 20k on the repairing and maintance. Nice car but really high maintanience...Just now one the way back home, Gear Box indicator shows up.. don't know how much have to spend this time on the gear box.. :103: Maybe its time to say bye bye to my lovely E46.. cannot tahan anymore...

undeniably ur post above has set me in dilemma because i'll soon be driving one. currently the e46 is being overhauled due to gasket failure and its cost is to be absorbed by dealer. to me, some rm20k is way too much to spend for its maintenance. appreciate u cud share the breakdown so that i cud prioritise in case my unit happens to encounter the similar hiccups.

Hemm..i'm shaky now.Paid booking to the used car dealer today..and the first test drive was not good...NO POWER...VER VERY HEAVY..NO TORQUE..arghhh....Gear Box issue..salesman said just need to setting the gear box..OR maybe the gear box KAPUT???.. Arghhh..

U gave me a 2nd thought..hiih..

To burn my booking or to take the risk??. arghhh..headache.....U spent 20k in less than 2 year.hemmm..

test drive no gud,no pwr,very heavy,no torque.....yet u put downpayment.............heloooooooooooo...........'..never ever believe it when the salesman said "it just needs..............".walk away.take yr time and find better ones

Ask the salesman to do the "just need ..." before you really buy the car. Anything about gearbox, dont pray pray. If your downpayment is 1K, 2K better burn the booking. Imagine spending 4, 5 times of that amount the next few months if gearbox really kaput.

why don't you guys send the car to the authorised dealer for inspection. cost Rm 3++ only.
i think i sent in 3 cars before, when i was looking for an e46. the 3 sent in cars was the best out of maybe 20cars i've found.
still, the faults came out like 2-3 pages but at least you'll have an idea how is the condition of the car and how much to expect for repairing.

why not keep e46 but make it slightly more affordable to run? perhaps some Jap parts under the bonnet will help? Engine and gbox still working? SELL SELL SELL

it's almost 1 day. they'll inspect everything. also, quotation for repair will be given to you.

i did mine in sapura auto. you can just call up and make appointment for 'pre-purchase inspection', i guess what the call it.

its good to send the car for inspection before we purchase.
outside mechanic also can...if they hv diagnostic..they can check also.
for my case...i done few test drive wit my fren car juz to get used with bm characteristic..
- how the power/torque delivered
- how smooth the gear changed
- how smooth the drive
etc..etc...

luckly...after few test drive and details checking...i found one...
yr01 328...done 100k pls..but really in mint condition.
as now..already use for 1 yr plus...no MAJOR problem.

BEST MAN WIN...can also be....BANYAK MAKAN WANG!!

it could be just a simple problem. Mine have similiar problem before past 4-5 months ago, but after I replace a new thermostat (as advice by Jarance) the error is gone until now! It was the thermostat that take care of the temperature of the gearbox. If it is too hot then whole error will just pop out!:smokin:

true enough ...not many ppl want to pay the rm300 for inspection ...why ?? cuz they think rm300 is way too expensive and most of them thinks bmw is bullet proof ....
