..then why not cut down enormous import tax on vehicles and brought it on to world scale and then play with fuel prices like everybody does ??
That's a noble idea! Najib take note pls.

No confirmation on 97 but stated in news saying 95 likely (not ascertained) going up by 20 sen in June :) They, the Cabinet will claim, it's STILL the cheapest in the region.. Gosh! with GST in the pipeline & power hike, it's simply wonderful, inflation rate will sky rocket...

got this piece of news from paultan.org regarding the price hike in Ron95...

http://paultan.org/2011/05/25/ismail-sabri-no-ron95-diesel-and-lpg-price-hike-for-now/

not price hike for now.... but for how long? a month, 3 months, 6 months or after the general election at 11/11/11? only Najib knows the answer...

Ron 97 - Floated to and adjusted to market price every month

Its been reviewed on a monthly basis for the last 5 month (up only!).

Government already announce that they cannot afford the Ron95 at the current price and told us to brace ourselves for the next price hike. Its all over the news since the last week or so. Last year's total subsidy was 10 billion for all the subsidy (petrol, sugar, etc), this year is set to be RM20 billion, 18 billion for the fuel subsidy only.

Very good info gathering !!!!!! The government really declared like this..............
But have you think that they are bull shitting ????????!!!!!!!!!!
Why not the government fully support us to buy the full electric car and make 0 Subsidy to petrol in this country ?????? And this problem happened since more than 50 years ago and it really solve if we all use electric car. Not only that we also make this environment free from petrol and save the world from global warming. Really 1 stone kills to birds !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I believe all of us know why we cannot use full electric car in Malaysia !!!!!!!!!!!

Few issues here:

1) Most Malaysians couldnt afford an electric car even if they want to

2) Limited range of an electric car - not feasible to everyone, person who commutes 50km each way is gonna have a hard time here.

3) Where do you think the electric that been used to charge the car came from? We have 87% thermal (coal and gas burning) and 13% hydro in this country, so I dont think increasing the use of electricity which in turn increases the fossil fuel burning is gonna do much good to the environment.

Singapore doesnt control their petrol oil prices. Its based on market price, so there will be price wars between the petrol brands. I have the same experience in the UK, driving around to see which petrol pumps is the cheapest.

In Malaysia, 97 petrol is floated on a monthly average basis. The government calculates the average of fuel price during the last month to get the next month's petrol price. Thats why its been reviewed on a monthly basis since end of last year. All these info has been published in the press if you like to read your papers/paultan.

So bro, which way you think more appropriate, the uk policy or our govt policy?

Aik baru tuka avatar ke?

Anyway..in the UK the price differs so much...I think we here in Malaysia are comfortable with a controlled price (subsidised or not)

For example, I can fill up at a Tesco near my house at £1.18 per liter (these are the petrol prices around the time I left the UK), and drive past a Shell which is selling at £1.16, already saying 'alamak!!' and then continue on to the motorway (highway). Drove for a while, and then runs out of fuel and need to refuel in the R+R. The prices there is £1.28 per liter (it does differ by that much on the motorways!!) and you dont have much choice other than to refuel anyway. Get the scenario?

Here you dont have to worry, everywhere the price is the same. This is another point of view I have.

As with the fuel subsidy/car tax point of view, too tired to discuss this all over again.

That have to depend on : do you like a RM5.00 teh tarik, RM10.00 chicken rice, and RM6.00 for a bowl of Cendol ?
Or you rather pay RM4/litre for gas ?

If and when RON95 increase 10% from RM1.80 to RM2.00,
most hawker center/food court increase their food/drink price at least by RM0.10

3 drinks a day : RM0.3/day x 30days = RM9 increase.

For a motorcylist who refuel every 3 days at RM5 per tank.
10% increase = RM0.5 x 8.7times (26 workings days) = RM4.35 increase

Goverment need to put more subsidy on food instead of spending 18billion on FUEL !!
I vote for NO fuel subsidy!
But goverment need to STOP or reduce the price on ALL necersities (sugar, oil, flour) so lower income familes CAN actually benefit for it.

I hv never been abroad..so i see the light now, agree that this issue needs to be looked into by govt..already tired with this issue, we can only say but they decide..sigh man

Most of the Malaysian couldnt afford an electric car also another bull shitting. Why most of the malaysian will have this mind set is because Malaysia government not allow you to use it. If you really want to buy it then will be super expensive but in face is it very cheap. I watched a video which stated that electric car maintenance far more cheaper than a normal car and you can do research on that.

Another reason why i said alot of Malaysian afford to buy electric car is because of this -->http://www.commutercars.com/
This is a 2 seater electric car. It can use it on our motor lane as well. The top speed of this car is 135 MPH. Use up to 40 to 200 miles. The Tango can be charged from most any receptacle, as it comes with a number of adaptor cords, and can charge to 80% in just 10 minutes from a 200 amp charging station. Typically, one would just plug in each night to a dryer outlet and get a complete charge in less than 3 hours and be ready for work the next morning. It can charge from any voltage from 100V to 250V without any adjustment.

In Malaysia used alot of fuel to convert to electric this is a fact. And in fact if you buy a gen set to recharge your electric car for sure is use lesser fuel than a normal car as well. Meaning if we all use the electric car, the fuel which for normal car will be convert to electric and will atleast reduce more than 50% of fuel burning.

And another fact is Malaysia is not only coal , gas, thermal and hydro energy. There is another energy call solar energy. We can use solar energy to charge our car and already got some models have solar charge as well.

Do you think out-of-city folks can afford the electric car? Those uncles driving Corollas. Sometimes its not just about the maintenance, the price of the car itself determines the buy.

Based on the scenario you posted above, in real life the reality is the city guys with the money will buy the electric car and runs it cheap with the generator at home (do you really wanna go to work, get back home, turn on the generator to charge the car while you relaxing, listening to the 'soothing' sound of the generator in your porch? The neighbors wouldnt be happy!). While at the same time to kampung folks who couldnt afford the electric cars are filling their old corollas with unsubsidised petrol at RM3 per liter.

Also when it comes to battery replacement, can they afford RM8k above battery replacement?

..so in case that electric cars are actually introduced, im really wondering, how much will be import tax for such thing..400% ? :)

Already mentioned before, e-cars are not feasible enough to be enjoyed by the masses.

We need the infrastructure first of all. Imagine the need to set up loads of battery/charging stations along the main roads/highways.

And there and then itself, another issue will arise, who will be tasked with handling the construction of these stations?

The price of this car is about RM60k. if you asking about can they afford RM8k above for battery replacement then i need to ask you back can they afford to pay RM15k for Proton Savvy gearbox replacement ? And now a day alot of kampung folks that you mentioned bought Proton Waja and it already above the price to buy this Tango. And the another funny things is Tango runs faster than Proton Waja !!!!!!!!

Gen set is just for those who stay on the mountain. Or if you really want to drive this car for super long distance over 200 miles then gen set is the tool you need to bring. Or the worst case is you need to charge at home for 3 hours that is all you need to do.

If now we all need to pay RM3 per litre of Ron 95 then you can ask all the Malaysian if now got a 2 seater electric car which open for sell in Malaysia will they buy it ??? The answer already clearly stated !!!!!! Why i am say so ???? 2011 open selling the Toyota Prios and Honda Inside. From the sales figures of both models you already get the answer. The Camry 2.4 hybrid which not in sell in Malaysia but in Thailand. If Camry 2.4 hybrid can sell in Malaysia then you will see more Toyota on the road !!!!

And another fact is we can buy the electric motorbike in Malaysia but can you use it on the road or not ? The answer is cannot and i am sure you know why. Modenas already succeed to build the electric motor which max speed can up to 100km/h but until today still not yet approve to sell to market.

Pray, tell me why? Pretty clueless why electric motorbikes are not allowed in Malaysia as you claimed it to be :)
