So embarrasing, I went to AB for my first service at 10800km, but was told that the first service is only due 25000km. I didn't know that! However, I had some issue with my steering wheel and squeeks. He did something to it and at first it was OK, but after a few minutes drive, it squeeked harder! So upset!I have also asked for latest software update for the 1 series, he said...not required as the system doesn't say anything about an update. True?

Hi Quikflyer. I would recommend that you change oil at 12500km as some of the members do. Unfortunately that oil change is not covered under the maintainance free package and you'll have to pay for it. If you intend to keep your car for more than 3 years then I strongly suggest that you change your engine oil every 12500km or every year whichever comes first.

Thanks for the tip. I know this is going sound damn blond, but how do I change the engine oil and which is the best place to go? What is the cost like?

This car is for keeps! :p

bro, if possible change every 10,000KM, your engine will love u for that. Just pay AB and ask them to change it. I doubt u can service outside as your car is under AB warranty for 3 years. I am affraid if they know u service outside, they will void your warranty if u need to claim anything in the future.

I've asked my SA at Sapura Auto why do they need to update my software and I was told that it is part of their ongoing service towards their customers,in my opinion if its not necessary they wouldn't call me bcoz i just got my car for about a month during that time.

Do you know what are the charges like?

You do not have to do this in AB or any authorized dealer. You can do the oil change outside and the dealer would not whether you change the oil or not. make sure you use ORIGINAL and good grade oil. Buy from Petronas or Shell Petrol stations.

Change every 10k or 12.5k and when you go for your 25k change, the oil will be the same dark color as it is drained out at 10k or 25k. The filter will be the same dirty filter too and they would not check the serial number, coz it is dirty, they will just throw it away.

What matters in my opinion is to make sure there less risk of oil separator clog, sludge and your engine is clean.

This is what I would do. If you are using full synthetic then change every 12500km. The first change I would go to a reputable specialist. You can request not to reset the service indicator. When you reach 25000km then change it at bmw. Remember to change the oil filter too.

According to my 1er service indicator, next service due at 10,000km / 03/2009
Hmmm..

Hmmm that's funny...how come the SA tells me that my first service is at 25k? My car indicator also says that my next service is at about 25k, 04/2009??

BMW say the service indicator is using a set of "complicated" calculation to determine when is your next service. Some of the consideration taken into the calculation is your acceleration and braking pattern.

By that definition, pion, you are a little rough in your driving while Quikflyer, u can go quicker.. :p

... means i tekan & brake too much ah? :p I never rev beyond 4500rpm or drive above 150km while it the 1er was below 2,000km mileage.

But...but .... ever since i got my 1er on day 2 the service indicator says 10,000km 03/2009

Aiyaa... pion, I would love to see my service indicator to show 10k, then I can quickly drain the minyak at the BRSI coverage at no cost to me.. :D

..then u need to drive your car harder. :D
by the way, can u feel the gear shifts especially when moving from stand still and after cold starts? ... when u tekan "a bit" but did not tekan all the way due to front traffic...
:D

Since our car don't have temperature gauge, when cold start, I take it slow and only whack it after about 5 min. Gear shift is normal be it cold or not cold..

I don't think engine temperature will alter the gear shift threshold, at least I don't feel it.

Haha...good one! The other day was on NKVE...didn't even realise I was hitting 160km/h :rolleyes:

True true... the other day I went to KLIA, before exiting the KLIA toll booth, its a wide area with yellow lines all over it (reminder to slow down la..), dunno if I traveled to fast or my OEM suspension lao-beh... my E90 was like riding a horse over the yellow line and imagine I need to apply brake while doing the horse ride at high speed... the car like no traction... almost jam the ABS.. lucky didn't drag down a toll booth.. :p

AB, I'm curious to find out that the latest e90 doesn't come with a temperature gauge. So, you only know the car overheating when an error message is prompted? You sure the function is not in the i-drive option that needs to be invoked? (I know my e39 is old-tech, but it has an option to record function to be call out by clicking on the side indicator stalk/lever.)

I also monitor the temp gauge in not rev'in over 2k rpm until the needle reach middle of the gauge.

Just curious(kepoh).:D
