haywire, when u change the unit from miles to km, the reading still the same? What i meant is from 180000miles to 180000km? Only the unit changed but the figure remain same?

It will properly change it with unit conversion. 100,000miles to 160,000km.

Bro zib, if u wanna walk away from the E60 deal u can coz u have every right to do so...the dealer should and have to refund u the RM600. They have given u a misdescription on the purchase, irregardless whether it's was the previous owner or them that tampered with the mileage.....it's blatant dishonest

Malaysian car dealers are very dishonest and most of them are terrible. When you buy the car, they will promise you the moon and the stars. After you buy, totally don't care at all.

Yes, a very high probability it's true. Most of the car dealers is only giving a goodwill 1-2 weeks of "warranty" on the engine and gearbox only. All other things - they use the caveat emptor principle, let the buyer beware. So, you need to be in the know when you go source your car from used car dealers or bring someone who knows to assist you.

To ensure that the dealers do fix/replace the parts they promised you, dont sign the loan documents from the bank/papers they prepared for you until you are sure that your requests has been fulfilled. However, they might insist that you pay the diferrential sum first (difference between your loan and purchase price of the car, if any).

The reason is (under the new Hire-Purchase Act) once you have signed all the documents and the car is transferred to your name the dealer would be able to submit their invoice to the Bank and the Bank is obliged to pay them immediately.

That would mean full purchase price of the car has been paid to them and if the parts/faults has not been rectified to your satisfaction, there is nothing much you can do except to collect the car as it is.

I will probably publish the used car's dealer's name and the salesman who I dealt with. And also I will publish the car and the number plate here as well!

Unless they refund me all the RM600 that I paid. True it was a blatant misdescription!

oh... i thought they can collect 1% of the car value.

yes - that's correct, car dealers are allowed to collect an amount equivalent to 1% of the purchase price under the new Act. However, they will persuade you to pay more but they cannot force it on you.

They are obliged to refund the same to you in the event that your loan application (after appeal(s)/from the same or another financial institution) is turned down for whatever reason.

:listen: .... You want to take this issue to another level bro? Report them immediately! :top:

zib,

what's the reason why they don't want to do full refund to you? why the "magic" number of less than 200?

To be honest bro, how many people will buy BMW and park at home? :) mileage for 5-6 year old car definitely would be quite a bit but in my opinion it's not really an issue if the car is properly maintained. If Proton engine also can last 200K KM, the BMW would surely be better. My AP car says 21K when I took it but I'm very sure it hits 100K KM in real life.

Depends la bro. My own 530 has done only about 40,000km in 3.5 years. That's because my daily mule is the 325 :) I have other pals also who have 4 cars sitting in their porch, so mileage also quite low. But then again, too low mileage would also give its own problems. So in general, as you said, doesn't really matter about the mileage as long as car is well maintained

Can actually attest to Alxy cause I just went to my regular mech asking if I could service my car (he said cannot and I have to wait for at least 2,000km btw). My 1st and only service was in December 2010 and I have not reached the 10,000km scheduled maintenance period. To date, I have only driven about 5,000km since Dec 2010 till August 2011. Reason being i have other rides as well and I interchange them a bit...so may not be so unusual to find low mileage on cars as long as you know the owners....:)

the general rule is whichever comes first...example 10000km or 6-months whichever comes first...

if you cannot hit the mileage, it is recommended that you change the oil based on time period...short journey causes premature ageing on the engine oil as it is not heated up properly or heat cycle is too short...in the long run the oil changes in its properties...

there is no such thing as changing engine oil too soon or cannot change engine too soon...its only the economic and time reason not to change usually...the best is to change it every after drive but this is both money and time wasting...hehe

What your mech told u is strange. it is advisable to change engine oil not longer than 6 mths irrespective of mileage. there is no such thing that "cannot service" until u have covered "certain mileage". unless u are still under warranty and they are paying for the engine oil service, than they would drag on your car service.
