But he convinced me twice that the owner said to the best of his knowledge the car did less than 100k KMS.I am now confused.
The car is actually ok.It has been resprayed and valeted. All in good nick.
See the pics here:https://picasaweb.google.com/mzi406/BMWE60?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCIjk4q2e26eAzQE&feat=directlink

Infact I have seen a year 2005 with 1st owner doing less than 100k KMS and he had all the AB service + specialist workshop receipts to prove that the mileage was indeed tally.

Of course there would be low mileage cars but what I'm trying to say is most of them are pretty well utilized :) For BMW, the paint, interior and exterior is one thing but most importantly the car's electronics must be in good condition. You wouldn't want the iDrive to prompt you with errors every now and then, lol. Normally workshop can help you diagnose for RM50 or so. If you want someone just let me know. Btw, the model is normal 523i, not even M-sports.

Zib

My advice is to stay away from the car, It might be all nice with the cosmetic bits. But if the dealer is dishonest about the mileage, he/ she can be dishonest about other bits, accident, breakdown etc etc..
I myself bought a 05 reg 1 owner 523I, with proven service record from PML BMW Sg, 81k kms, but over the last 1 year, it has broke down 3 times, More than RM20K In servicing, maintaining and replacing faulty parts. Irony was, the car was serviced by PML just before I collected my car
My point is, sometimes, even everything you do is correct, like a dream second hand car ( Mine is spotless and look brand new when collected) things can go bad-- to worst....

There are plenty of good E60s around. I would stay away from any dishonest seller, dealer no matter how good the car might seem.

Of course, like many before me had stated, Getting it check by a BMW specialist is also much advisable.

just a 2 cents. i will never bought a 2nd hand car from dealer in my life..the salesman can tell you everything good damn thing about the car as seems like they are the owner of the car. and infact they are not!
Share Share with you:

Me:" The Car is good condition or not?"
Salesman:" Definitely sure! We not accept car which is not good condition"
Me:"I thought Dealer only accept trade in car?"
Salesman:" Yes, we will only accept trade in"

Statement of conflict: The dealer has to accept trade in car (with no choice! even though the car is not good condition), provided the owner buy the car from them.

The above just my personal thought which say to be logical.

Buy 2nd hand car - beside feel the car personally, the other factor also come into play - know the owner and luck

Owner - When you speak to the owner, then you will know this car is good or not, just get a feel, car and owner are click. if you don't trust and doubt the owner, then don't go for it. Like tackle a girl! if you think the girl can be trust, then go all the way, if not better let go or else you will suffer!

Luck - whether the car is cheap or expensive doens't matter, i rather pay a little more if the car can give me peace of mind. Prar hard for this, it depends on your fate!

By the way - one good comment - of course there are still a good honest sales man outthere like me..Haha..i oso saleman but not selling car.

Conclusion:

Go look for the owner if you want to buy the 2nd hand car.

Look for those -" call 'name' / Call owner / ..etc.." when you look at motortrader, mudah, etc..

Need to work hard little bit.. if your go for owner, then inspection B5, B7, loan, transfer, etc have to DIY..but no big deals! i have did for so many times.

Worth it! as to say. evethough time consuming.

hello Zib,

My personal opinion is

1. Try to buy a car right from its owner. Then you can see the real condition of the car and you can get the reliable story of its history. But you may hv to go thru the hassle of loan application since you hv to do it on your own. Honestly, I hv very low level of trust when it comes to second hand car salesman/dealers.

OR

2. Get a car from a reliable AP dealer (if your budget permits). Quite a number of reputable AP dealers sell reliable AP cars and in fact many of them provide 1 year or 25k km selected mechanical warranty (for major parts eg engine, gear box, steering box, rear axle etc) as since 2010 they purchased insurance for this purposes. Used imported cars from Japan (ideally) or UK are hardly trashed since their road conditions are far much better than us including driving behaviour. I bought an E60 525i year 2005 UK spec magnesium engine almost 2 years ago from an Importer (happens to be my fren) and he was honest where I had the car fully checked and diagnosed by an independent BMW specialist prior to the purchase. So far the car is running well. Thank GOD. U may have to fork out from your pocket slighty more but you can enjoy low loan interest of a new car

Thanks all for the advise.

Finally found another one from a private seller. But the color is blue black. The leather is black!

Car in good nick (some minor scratches and rear wheels almost bald!) Done 104,000 KM original KM this time. She bought used two years ago from BMW (approved used).

Checked with my regular mechanic at Tmn Mayang (he is a Peugeot mech but does BMW as well). The car is ok except the flywheel oilseal near gbox a bit leaking and the front lower arms and bushes need to be replaced. Cost-wise maybe I can search here.

My mech will give the quotation next week. But no big deal as used car at that mileage will have those normal wear and tear anyway.

So far so good and I have made her an offer. Monday will do B7 and the rest we will see how the loan and reg transfer process.

Cheers everybody!

So whats the deal with the RM600 deposit? Any chance you'll see it again?

At the moment not yet. But luckily I paid with credit card.

So I can make a fraud case mentioning the dealer had manipulated me by showing the car had 88k KM and AB records show that it had done at least 136k KM back in Nov 2009.

It will take time but the money will come back. That is my worst case scenario. I think the dealer would understand as nobody in his right mind would buy a car which had done a quarter of a million KMs for that price. If RM145k maybe la...

Hi I am a new member! Just about btombuy 06 5 series UK spec but milage 18k for 200K? OK kah. I guess the milage was tempered from UK.

If you have guessed it, why still want to consider? IMHO, it's better to buy direct from local owner with proper service record from AB though the price may be higher.

Well another blunder today. The car is actually an 05. Only found out today when she showed me the reg card. So the price I dealed yesterday is no deal now.:2:

Since it is actually a 05, I asked for a further discount but she could only knock 5k less... So I have to think abt it.

Maybe I should just stick to an E39. I just realized if I wanna pay more than RM160k for a 5 year old car,it must be almost perfect..Maybe I am a bit unrealistic. haisshhh...

It is illegal to tamper the mileage from the UK. If the dealer is found tampering the mileage he could go to jail and close his business.
Most probably it is tampered here.

Mysia is full of hanky-panky business.

Illegal or not people still do it there. Worse still some E39's are being found to have its instrument cluster LED/bulb taped over with insulation tape behind the face to hide airbags/ABS error icons etc. That's a lot worse than winding back mileage and they still do it.

Some dealers, while rewinding back the mileage they also change the unit from Miles to KM. The unit is interchangeable. It will indicate on the dash whether its in Miles or KM

My dash when it was in the UK, in Miles (faulty pixels still not fixed)

My dashboard recently in KM

I changed my unit from Miles to KM myself with PA Soft BMW Scanner.

haywire, when u change the unit from miles to km, the reading still the same? What i meant is from 180000miles to 180000km? Only the unit changed but the figure remain same?
