So I've been in a tug of war between my e90 and the e46 (06 e90 power wise, 04 e46 looks although it's a 318i)Decided on the E46 since it was what I kept drooling over in high school and the first I purchased right after my first contract and the E90 fits better as a VIP ferry in the office (no more than 2 km per passenger haha)So~ I'm thinking of - Changing the entire air flow, intake to output.> Nothing drastic but wondering how much tuning is going to be required and where.- Some lowering and prolly 18s> Considering it's spotting a pretty weak engine and hoping the above gives gains of around 30-40. Will the bigger, heavier wheels affect the gains to the point of it being noticeable?- Custom wide body kits> Because this is ultimately what I've drooled after back in highschool when they were (2003)[As noted before :) I've not modded any beemers so far since I was told it's kinda tricky compared to any other tuners. Most of my experience modding was done on a second hand gtr34vs2 followed by the remainder on a kelisa. I apologize in advance for any questions that may seem pointless/stupid]

You made my morning with that. My nephew woke up because of my laugh.

Thanks for the links :) Just got my matte black grill.

That rim is beautiful! Would be my second choice if I can get a hold of the 18s on the F30 similar design. Give it a dark gun metal black with red detailing lines *drools*

Contacted the exhaust dude too!

Gonna skip on the conversion for a while until I decide if I want to plant something else in there and go with a pedal shift retrofit for the moment. Might throw in a Procede after getting the airflow done. Retune and remap for best possible gains. There's only so much you can do with a 318 >.

Just be prepared with the wear and tear changes that will be required, lots of gasket, oil seals, parts need to be changed to get it in running condition.

Bro, first thing, Sort out BASIC MAINTENANCE FIRST. Engine oil, atf oil, seals, gaskets, expansion tank, hoses, cooling etc......once you are done, only then go for mods. A car that only look good is no use if it doesnt run.

Just my 2 sen. All the best bro.

Bro,

Procede does not tune any E46. For BMW they specialise in tuning N54/N55 engines.
You will probably gain 5-10hp from a proper intake and around 10hp for a good tune.

18s and a wide bodykit are heavy and will decrease performance.

Don't think you will be satisfied with the performance of a 318i if you drove a R34 GTR before!
Might as well sell the 318i and get a 328i/330i or M3 if you want more performance.

PS: The E46 M3 already comes with wide bodykit :top:

+1 on selling 318i for a 6-cylinder e46. do it before spending too much on the 318i and realising still not quite there... since you've always wanted an e46, still like it despite newer models, have played with modding r34 gtr, and given prices of e46 these days, get the best e46 you can. for daily drive, definitely a 330 saloon or coupe whichever style you prefer. maybe a 330i saloon then later can still have a coupe sibling/say an m3 for play.

Thank you for the inputs :) Truly appreciate it.

@Geedo & Zendong : My cars go through 5k interval service and 7.5k full service and maintenance (fluids, filters, adjustments, belts etc) and always loved that saying. A car that only look good is no use if it doesn't run. Thanks to my OCD I've never had a breakdown :D.

@Zendong : That's not 2 sen bro! That's a lifesaver piece of advice!

@maxxsp : Well that's a piece of bad news. Got one that was supposed to head into my 90.

@maxxsp & erica34 : To be frank this was to be my project/play/fun/childhood toy car for a while. Most I'll go for the e46 at the moment is a transplant and / or making the best out of what I can out of it. Gotta admit though that e46 M3 looks sleek as sleek can be sadly purchasing an e46 isn't part of my current plans. Waiting for the announcement of the 4 Coupe/Gran Coupe, M3/4 and the 3er GT. A friend of mine who recommended the same thing as you guys did told me the easiest most viable upgrade path if I want to do more than just up the air flow and tune is to dump in a supercharger but another friend who was there said the e46 will end up with Rear Subframe problems. Thoughts?

Thanks again guys :) Really appreciate the feedback and tips as I most probably would've screwed up from every direction if I flew solo

Supercharger? Latest group buy with Devillian for the 6 cylinder supercharger was around SGD25k. I think you could do better with a 330i conversion for less than half the money.

Haha thanks..actually SGD10600...was thinking in different currency. But still a 330i convert would be cheaper?

The ESS SC kit only works for M54 engine but he has a 4cyl ... So it's out of the question.

Power is never enough tho ... One advantage of a 4cyl BMW is better weight distribution and it sits farther back which equal to faster and more stable cornering speeds. 6 cyl e46 tends to be nose heavy.

Upgrade suspension and arb ... Take to ulu yam and smile with glee :4:

Shawn come to MMZ tonite and we can racun you with more options :)

O_O 25 sgd? I was expecting around the same as when my friend was working with his c180 which was about 4k usd +/- max of 8k usd since the 318i is a 2.0 I4 as well.

:D maybe I should just zen like a monk and wait for the M4 or 4GC.

Supercharger? Considered it at one point but decided i'd get bored of it pretty fast. LOL!
And that's taking into account that ours will not end up in the same league as the supercharged M3's and M5's.

Sub... I got two nice E46 M3 Speedo's coming. One manual punya and the other SMG punya!

Decided to get the interior up to par before working on the exterior and engine bay :) Pics up as soon as I can find the parts. Gonna use this as an excuse to buy some time to decide modpath.
