Well, this is a PLAN and not a confirmed thing. We already have all the public holiday dates and school holiday dates for 2011 with us when this was discussed. As stated the PLAN is during those dates; it could be 6D or 4D etc.... nothing is confirmed...

This is to gauge interest.... If you are keen, put down your names....

There seems to be a communication issue here: QD250 (Secretary) started this thread and Chili e30 (committee) justifying with his '2 cents' why the dates chosen arent suitable. To QD250 and Chilie e30: Wasnt this event/drive discussed, planned and agreed upon during your committe meeting before making this post?

Okow,

This was discussed between us here and Chili wasn't here as he is in Malacca. As stated, this is still at planning stage and the intention of this thread is to gauge interest...

Chili,

though your 2 kupang is appreciated, perhaps you can check in with us in the future....

Nothing wrong with going away for vacation during CNY. Cos no need to give ang pow mah.. hahaha...

Anyway, have heard before that in Koh Samui, that there might be a bit of a problem getting fully halal food... it's ok if members are moderate as in doesn't mind as long as there's no pork in the food... There are some extreme muslims who must eat in a totally halal outlet, that may be an issue...

some have suggested to us to go on the 2nd day before we post this up. These came from our fellow Chinese brothers.....

Thanks for the heads-up on the food.... Heard Impiana is run by a Malaysian over there....

anyone with other info that can help?

I have googled and yes there are some Halal restaurants around. Will look at the names, location and post them.

k...need to be update always...

CM's should get a general consensus from all cm's eventho some of them are not around for committee meetings before posting official events, this is to ensure no communication breakdowns LIKE this happens.

....actually for some of us especially me and alot of people I know CNY is the only time we can take a long break....but have it from the second day of CNY and not the first would be better ...
You cannot pleased everybody because if need to please everybody, nothing is ever going to materialise.....anyway if this trip does materialise, c u guys there...Ive already made plans since early of the year to be in Koh Samui on this dates....

Yes, Impiana Hotels are owned by Malaysian company KAB Group which is headed by Datuk Seri Farouk Abdullah which is also (is im not mistaken) the holding company of Kurnia Insurans. Impiana Samui's rate for now is around Rm190-Rm215 per standard room incl ABF. Not sure about CNY period but expect it to be much higher in pricing.

Thinking of calling for a meeting with some of you guys with the experience....

Can we call upon these guys to be part of a working committee?

1. Okow
2. XXX
3. Stanley
4. Blacke90
5. PCChuah
6. ...

anyone else can contribute?

Guys,

Google Map says it's an 890km trip with +-12hours of driving..... so return trip is about 1780km. Not sure about the 12 hours drive though..... some of you may be able to do it in 6 hours..... hehehe...

Tentatively the plan is as follows:

Plan A:
Day 1 - drive to Hatyai
Day 2 - drive to Koh Samui
Day 3 - in Koh Samui
Day 4 - drive to Hatyai
Day 5 - drive to KL

Plan B:
Day 1 - drive to Koh Samui
Day 2 - in Koh Samui
Day 3 - drive to Hatyai
Day 4 - drive to KL

just a plan guys.....

put down your names if you are keen....

some pointers:

3rd party Thai insurance can be bought at the border
can use photocopy of your car registration card (your name la), if not with letter of authority

Anyone that help with Group Border Crossing ka?

Was told that in previous escapades the Costing will be about RM1,500 per car (of 2 pax) for a 5D4N trip including hotel, fuel, toll.

But of course it could be more or less....

Things to consider:
- You'd have to drive to either Surat Thani *(1 hr 45 min) or Donsak *(50 mins) to take the ferry to Samui. * - away from Samui
- Not all ferries take vehicles (I think only 2 a day)
- Not worth going all the way to Samui for just 1 night
- Consider Krabi (no need for ferry)

Bro, just my suggestion, both of the plans are too short for a relaxing trip to Koh Samui. Either Plan A or B is just some hard driving trip, you cannot spent much time relaxing at beach nor shopping in Hadyai. Why drive so far & can't even enjoy the sea breeze or activities there?

The distance from KL to Bkt Kayu Hitam (BKH) is 510km, BKH to Hadyai (Hdy) is 57km, Hdy to Donsak pier 312km, then take ferry to Taling Ngam pier at Samui; distance is 32.8km (via sea voyage, time taken is approximately 1 hour 45 mins), Taling Ngam pier to hotel is 31km.
Traveling time is too long.

Families would not enjoy the journey & lack of sightseeing and activities at Koh Samui.

Just my opinion....

okow was true...need to know what time is ferry & normally the ferry can load about 20 vehicle including lori so if we miss the ferry that will be a problem,if the thai vehicle is a lot over there we can only go in a few car.5 year back i go with 4x4 over land group i got my thai friend as a tour guide so easy a bit & avoided this problem,we arrive 2 hour earlier to wait for ferry.

Bro, you are absolutely right, the schedule for ferry with vehicles on board from Donsak is twice a day.
Support you suggestion to Krabi instead....
MC & OM to decide.
