Folks, I have been reading threads that the UK import 523i are running the N53 engine which is not suitable for the malaysia shores due to our petrol has high sulfur content. What about the 528i ?I read in wikipedia that the 528i in US/CANADA is using the N52 engine but its not very clear if the UK version using the N53 engines ? Any sifu's out there who can clarify

Mate,

from my understanding all UK imports are N53, beware of major problems later on. Get a local AB car with warranty where possible and sleep well at night.

All the best

If its N53, then I will have to avoid it.
BTW, does anyone know what engine specs is the japenese version ? Is it N53 as well ?

Yes go for the 535.. test drive as many grey units as possible. There are plenty of options.

Japanese specced f10 is very poor compared to malaysian specced. Even my fren from Japan and Hong Kong were amazed of how well specced our car here. eventhough their cars are cheaper.

Japan is N52 but you will have another problem - every single crap is in Japanese :D

if you wait for a while the BMW N20 528i's may arrive. not too sure how the uk version's of the N20 cope with our fuel though. and beware of the specs. apparently it's pretty common to find bmw's with manual seats and 6 speaker only systems in the uk.

Actually, only the direct injection NA engines (N53) poses a problem with our high sulfur fuel contents. In the case of turbo, there are no issues because N54/N55 are being sold here officially by BMW. Therefore, we can expect the N20 turbo engines to work perfectly fine with our fuel.
