Engine overhaul for e30 M40...

Make sure parts are complete.. miscalculation of parts may end up having your car stuck in the workshop until sourcing is successful.
 
bro cempaka is right. A compression test will help you to determined the condition of your engine internally. :). Do the quick test before you make any decision. Porting/polish the M40 won't give you the satisfaction of a M42. ;)

i am also thinking of m42 or m44 but wanna use a/t so don't know my gear box can use back or not or can use the m42 a/t gear box.

easier to get a M42 with A/T bcos of the integrated wire harness.. It'll be difficult if not impossible to mate the wiring to work with your current E30 A/T...

eujax ...another option is ...since your engine is clocking around 130K , why not prolong it ...if there isn't any white or black smoke coming out ...

a simple remedy is why not change to a thicker engine oil viscosity...you may be able to hear the noise , but the level won't be as loud as it was previously ...

a note of experiment here which i carried out my self .... flush off your oil and then change to a thicker grade oil with some additives and try it first ....i bet you'll be able to prolong the life till 200K ...

the entire process will set you somewhere around rm120 bucks or so ...

the racun force is always greater when it comes to engine matter ...
 
My M40 which is at 265,000+km now also has some of the noise, but I was always told it was normal for the M40, so never thought anything of it. Of course I wouldn't know if it was supposed to sound some other way or drive some other way since it's been like this for the 3 years I've owned it. :D
 
noisy lifters could be the lifters worn or the cam lobes have worn...

Anyway, u didn't mention anything about what your regular mechanic had to say about your engine. What his diagnosis? and what are the options.
 
noisy lifter is normal for m40 if the sound very lound is the lifter worn, if u change lifter the sound might not so lound but lifter is not cheap, per pcs is about rm60.change 8 pcs it will be rm480.

very true ...can buy my m40 engine with that price and you'll have the whole lot ... :)

usually the worn out lifter would be the 1st 2 that's closer to the distributor ... one of the reason is due to the presure exerted upon the clutch fan...
 
Hi guys...i think i should really meet up with you guys and let u all hear the sound of my engine...perhaps that way you guys would be able to advice me in more detail manner. I am still learning a lot things.

My mech basically just told me that it needed an overhaul, better to be both top and bottom as he suspect many parts are worn and needed a thorough clean out. My regular workshop is M1 Kayu Ara, never been to another place before so far.

When are u guys good to meet up next week?

black smoke is bcos your engine is running rich.. too much fuel not enuf air...

Perhaps you should get 2nd opinion from another workshop... Did you have to top up engine oil regularly? And if no white smoke, means engine still ok... But better to do a compression test to see whether there's compression leak for the 4 combustion chambers.
 
i think you should get iceman 13 contact ask him to bring you visit a sifu workshop let him have a look & see what you need to do.
 
Young man, do a few thing 1st. check yr compression. That will determined how bad yr engine is 1st. Sound, change thicker engine oil and put in additive. see how bad is it 1st. it can also be your injectors as M40 injectors are quite noisy.

ouh i dont know what to do, where do u stay? i am quite frustrated with my e30 right nw.
