Engine Oil for E60??

  • Click here to become an Official Member of BMW Club Malaysia Download Form
The oil cap is sponsored by Castrol, so BMW AG don't have to spend money on the cap.. :p

Different oil has different properties la, due to the different mix of additive. Some very slippery but not consistent (tak tahan) and the 300V is one example. My friends' Scoobies are all using 300v but they follow insane oil change interval of 3k km.

Castrol oil doesn't receive good feedback from my friends especially the GTX2 range. Even their full synthetic Edge 5w-40 wasn't convincing to me compare to Toyota Fully Synthetic as sluggishness was felt once above 8k km used and FC takes a beating.

Just look at it as your car's girl friend, it doesn't have to stick to one.. Saw one Japanese brand in metal can, 10w-40 full synthetic "racing oil".. so wanted try out a Japanese.. ;)

Now we go for "Barely Street Legal" stuff and I believe BMW qualifies too.. :p

wow...then it makes no sense at all for BMW AG to print the Castrol name on the oil filler cap...its ok not to notice the ads but the oil filler cap???...why not just stick to the recommended oil? why wan to be more pandai than the manufacturer? Either way, if you visited other car forums as well, then u shud notice that the subject of oil is sensative, never ending and it is solely based on your own liking and preference to use which brand at the end of the day...

i notice nowadays some newbies like to ask every single thing come to their mind without doing their own research and study first...last time i wan to ask also sked kena shoot so i always do my research first...

Oh bruder,here we go again...

The begin with,My car came with full Hamman stuffs and that includes the oil filler cap and so I didn't know that BMW endorses Castrol and we found out why coz it's bloody paid for by Castrol.Bet you didn't know that(research?).

No,I'm not trying to be more 'Pandai' than the manufacturer.Coz if I"m more 'pandai',I won't be begging for information in a forum like this and tolerating crap(see quote above).

Of course I'm aware of the choice of oil in the open market but the reason why we have a forum like this is to share information so we can decide on the reasonably right choice

I have tried very hard to be polite and tolerant with some of you 'sifus' in this forum but to no avail. Why don't you tell me that this forum is only for the learned, the ones who have done their research, the ones who are very mechanically advanced? No? you can't say so?

I take it that the BMWMC is a place where newbies and the oldies can learn and share however silly the question may seem.Just because you'sked kena shoot' when you were a newbie, you expect everyone in this world to follow in your footsteps?

FYI,I have been following your posts and have been learning a lot from you and it's obvious that you have a vast technical knowledge.I'm impressed. But that Mr.Ribena does not make you Captain Wonderful.

What harm is there in you just giving simple answers to people who want to learn? This probably is the first time a newbie tells you this but don't you think a little politeness and manners would work wonders on you?combine that with your knowledge, wow!
And if you think that's a little too challenging then don't even bother saying anything.

Guna, there's a "Search" function in the top menu.

Try to make use of it as it will allow u to dig into a wealth of worthy knowledge about our beloved ride rather than opening another thread that ask about the differences about FWD and RWD, for instant, or RON95 vs RON97, or all posting by t2ribena, or all thread started by astroboy.

TT (teh tarik meet), or HH (happy hour) is also another place to get together, shake hands and is the best place to iron out differences. I am sure if I open another thread asking about what oil to use for my E90, t2ribena won't shoot me.. :p :D

t2ribena is a more than nice chap.. when we are convoying in Singapore, most of us are driving blindly without any GPS and t2ribena has proved to be more than just nice to take care of us to lead us to the intended destination with his GPS. He could have just driven off cause we are really mafan fellas.. :p

Try to understand many of those who have been answering the same questions for years, in the same forum and yet newbie still asking them the same question despite the answer is right before their nose if they care to dig a little. You know la, sifu from the deep mountain mostly very hot temper want.. be a little patience, you will be rewarded..

Glad u decided to stay.. better still, try to become official member... that's even more rewarding..

Thank you for the decent words,I"ve asked some even dumber questions in other BMW forums and the irony is,not once was I shot down like I was some dumbass. While I may not be some SuperDuper BMW specialist,I have contributed my fair bit to certain forums for a long time and though I've been considered knowledgeable or so called sifu,I've never let it get to my head and have never been rude to any forumer regardless of how silly his or her questions were.

We still took the time to explain or the least was to guide them to a link which explains.Never once rude to people who want to learn. Is there some kind of ranking system in this forum? This is the 1st time I decided to buy this so called UDM and was hoping to get some help from our very own BMWCM and guess what?we have the some of the most rude bunch I've ever encountered so far in ANY forum.Mat salleh fellas who are as smart as a nuclear scientist also can reply us politely and teach us patiently and they don't even know the difference between Malaysia and Timbuktu. There was a thread in the Singapore BMW forum where these guys were talking like as if Malaysia was a dangerous place to go to and I gave them a piece of our mind and you know what?they felt sorry and duly apologized. But here in our very own forum, some of them think they are so intelligent that their royal highnesses should not be bothered to answer"silly" questions.Well.they don't have to but instead they try and shoot people down. Now that is BAD,don't you think so?or can anybody else prove me wrong here?

The point is,I'm new to BMW and hearing how much a bitch these cars can be,I thought I could get to know knowledgeable people here who can guide me and keep my cool when my car decides to work up but instead I run into Land of Arrogance every now and then.

As you would have read and noticed, this is not the first time I had to cross swords with some top notch sifus here and maybe that's why the animosity. So I've been told more than once as to how nice a person Mr.Ribena is but it tastes like a bitter pill tough to swallow for now. Then again maybe he is but he sure as hell needs to improve his writing ethics

Be an official member of BMWCM?I almost did and would I be subjected to such abuse when and if I do make it your TTs or meets? I don't think I would be this polite if so.Actually,I was even planning to start a BMW club in my little town and maybe even get affiliated to BMWCM.Infact I was talking to AB about this earlier but after going thru this for the second time in this forum,I think not.Or maybe it's just a few apples in the bunch which are rotten?

PS..I"m still here...and Astroboy you're a cool dude

aiyoh...astroboy...no need to defend me la...he lagi panas ler...i like kena shoot by this fellow...:top:

anyway, i was merely 'pulling his leg' and just as i have expected, he will go into detail drilling every single word i say and making long & wild assumption on his own...just like last time...same style of reply summore...

please take note that not once that i say i am a sifu or considered myself one or as per your claim captain so and so...hahaha thats funny anyway...

Mr Guna, no offense but maybe the way you started in this forum may have attracted me to kacau u...
icon10.gif
nevertheless...enjoy your stay and keep on asking question brader...so many things u can learn here :top:i promise i wont kacau u again in your quest to learn...

one question though? do you think BMW AG will put the Castrol name there even though being paid by them (of course i know about marketing/advertising fee ) without testing the oil extensively on the engines? BMW AG has the obligation on warranty to its customer right? do you think BMW will simply put any oil brand in this case on their products without any confidence based on their own testing? reputation at stake, no? if proven otherwise then i will start a company selling engine oil lets say with cap Tikus and i pay BMW to put this name on the filler cap? makes sense?

opps...sorry thats more than one question at the end...
icon10.gif

All the info is here on the website... At the end of the day its up to the individual whether you want to use the oil that is recommended by BMW for your Engine/Model and so forth.. If you dont want to use the recommended Oil and you feel you are comfortable with a different brand, different viscosity..yadda yadda yadda... So be it.. ... you can just simply read the info that is already here on this forum,If you still dont understand or are a little confused feel free to ask anyone for advice. Yeah so all cool?

Dear Guna, i hav seen ur post on BMW-SG. Why do u have to be so aggressive? If u have been lurking on both of these website, u would know that it is their way of giving an answer in fun way.

Lastly, the way u answered the post in BMW-SG shows that u r an ignorant foreigner who does not know about Sg media. It is the media hype that resulted in Msia being wild wild west. On that forum, there are a lot of ppl who drive to Sepang regularly for track. In addition, there r also a lot of ppl who drive all the way to Penang, Cameron Highland.

Peace on earth.

"we should start listing the prices and rankings of oil" & "most preferred oil for the E60s" are never a good discusssion because everyone have the own piece of mind of their preffered oil. It will be never ending discussion, and sometimes it will turn into argument.

If you like further discussion, for example "is Mobil 1 any good", is a better question to ask.
And my opinion: Mobil 1 is over priced and over-rated. Besides their 0w-40/5w-40 formula which is almost reasonable and you get what you paid for.

Dear Davidtch, I do agree with you totally that Singaporeans are a fun bunch and I like the way they poke fun at each other. In fact,it can be a real laugh just reading their posts.Humor is an art which they have adapted very well in their forum.Sadly, the same can't be said here.

I'm well aware of the hype the Sg media churns up when it comes to Sngaporeans crossing over to Malaysia and spending their money here.I do travel to Sg evey now and then and I have plenty of good friends there who also ride or drive up to where I am.I don't think I was overly aggressive by keeping the record straight when it comes to telling the world that Malaysia is a safe place to be.I think it's my responsibility to protect the good name of my country.Obviously you don't think so because knowing well what they were saying and you even reading it,you didn't say a word in defense, did you?(and I assume your'e a Malaysian?)and to top it all, some of them even duly apologized which is very gentlemanly of them(again, the same can't be said here). In the end,I felt that I've done my tiny bit to try and keep up the good name of my country. And I will do it again oif I have to.I was not being aggressive but more diplomatic in an assertive way.If you choose to keep quiet despite reading it,that's your prerogative. If you had read it,you would have also noticed that I'm careful with words, avoiding rude words. To call me an 'ignorant foreigner' is rude.

Lastly, stop coming to the rescue blindly.Don't fall into this trap.Rudeness should never be treated lightly.Would I have reacted this way had these people been polite? No,I wouldn't have.

Peace be with you

Mr.Guna

I think the problem started with your first few post in the E39 vs E60 thread...where as a newbie you were already pissing off some of the old dickheads here, nevertheless I respect your perseverence, even after being shot so many times ur still here...If I were you I would have been long gone from this forum...anyway I see you already got the hang of it and beginning to chill...and thats good...dun worry ...we even had one badass newbie who ask us to use our club shirt to wash cars...but now he is a official member and a loved person in the club...so as long as you know how to chill...your stay here would be a wonderful affair...:top:

Mr.XXX,
Thank you for being impartial and being able to see it from my point of view.I on the other hand admire your choice of words or more so the guts to use it.My intentions had always been the same and that is,I want to learn so some where down the road I would have the knowledge to teach others.I mean no harm to anyone and I don't take harm coming to me lightly either(quite apparently).

I would never stoop down that low and say things like using the club tshirt for whatever reasons other than wear it and be proud of it.What baffles me is that as old timers or Otais(as we call them in the bike kingdom) the onus is upon us to show the ropes in the best possible manner to the newbies.Maybe BMWCM should start a certain department on club ethics. You know, like some golf clubs.Just because one is knowledgeable it doesn't give one a superlicense to be arrogant.

To all parties concerned,I owe you guys an apology for turning into a 'keyboard champion'(ref:e39 vs e60).But the sole reason for this is to make a point that arrogance is a disease and that one should do as one would be done by.(figure that one out smart ones)

For the record Mr.XXX,what you said made all the difference to me.It's probably people like you that keep this club going.kudos to you:top:

And Astroboy what a lovely picture....errr...where to meet her ah?

I'm cool,I'm cool...I'm so cool,I piss ice cubes...now can meet her ah?
