Hi has anybody upgrade their factory fitted sound system yet??? I am currently using the HiFi LoudSpeaker System.... thinking of upgrading to some aftermaket speaker but haven't got a single clue what to do.... The factory Speaker seems to be so small that i couldn't find any speaker in the market that is a direct fit. I have tried Rockford fosgate, JL Audio and Morel..... can't seems to find any!!!

Wow. I thought the speakers provided with the car was already quite good. I noticed the bass has far more depth than the ones which came with my ex-E46. Well, if I do decide to upgrade, I would be glad there's this resourse. Have you tried to look for Alpine or Dynaudio?

For me I am absolutely happy with my current sound system. I thought it is very good compared to e46, just like what JPB mentioned. Hmmm..... well... different people will have different preferences.

Hi Guys

Have a 325 E90. Changed my front speakers from the 4" to 5" Polk Audio and got it to fit. Also changed the tweeter as well to ADS. Added power amp and Mohawk Subwoofer in the boot. The sound is more transparent and much better definition and sounstage. A

The installer discovered a BMW installed subwoofer under the 4 driver's seat so the tuning has to be optimised. The whole installation took the whole day with 4 people working on it. Took a long time to remove and put everything back but for about
RM2500 it was worth it. Did it in Ipoh so it will probably cost 3K in KL. Also installed a DVD player in the sun visor. Cost 500.

hi sebbie,
that a hell of a upgrade.... actually i was looking only for minamal upgrade like only the front speakers but couldn't find the right one. as you mention the original is only 4" but you went up to 5".... did they drill any hole or cut anything.... does it look completely stock? I want to mantain the orginal setup but with some better speakers that all... maybe another amp just to boost up the power a bit...

btw you mentioned that there are four bass under the four seat... i thought there are only two under the driver and front passenger seat.

Juan Powerblow,

i think the harmon kardon in the E46 is much better. I had them in my 330CI in uk. I haven't check out Alpine but i dunno anything bout Dynaudio!!! maybe i check it out tomorrow.... the E90 seems pretty conservative,,, I feel there is nothing much you can do to the car apart from bodykit and wheel... the interior look too good to change anything especially the head Unit....

beemers try Infinity Reference 4012I for the front door panel and rear parcel shelf direct replacements, I was looking at these for my car as well.

There's some stuff from Alpine, JBL and Focal that fits well. You're looking for 4" with 55mm clearance (for the front door panels). Technically the OEM ones are 3.9".

Subwoofers are 8.5" and the tweeters are 1". OEM are harman/becker stuff

Here's a DIY, might help give you more ideas... http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58085&highlight=speakers

KL2DC,
Thanks for the informations. this might sound stupid.... what do you do for a living? you seems to know more bout BMW than those SA working in BMW itself....

I've asked the question before a long time ago when I too thought he was connected with BMW. Never got a straight answer. Only know he lives in a nice Washington DC suburb, married to a local, no kids yet. Always says he's coming back but never does. :p

Now you try lah. Good luck... :D

Naah, I know for a fact that he is not with BMW, cos he is merely "eat-full-sell-pau" :p ....

Wha....

I thought we were talking about speakers here....:p

I'm just an average nine-to-fiver who also happens to be a car enthusiast not unlike every other guy (and gal) here ;)

No offence meant Donny. We're all just curious because you have BMW facts at your fingertips way beyond that of a mere enthusiast.

I'm still trying to find a question that will stump you. Do you know whether BMWs can run on palm oil?

well got a serious one here actually,

if let say i will be able to get the blot on turbo kit from the 335i would i be able to put it on the 325i? that will be one hell of a car.

Schwepps, it probably wouldn't take too much to make a diesel BMW run on palm-oil based/derived bio-diesel. Its also not too much to make the car run on palm oil, some basic prep need to be done to the oil to make it into a viable fuel. The problem is adequate infrastructure to mass process and supply these fuels.

Hi beemers 3

yes for the 5" to fit, they had to cut the cardboard material which houses the original 4". Anyway you can't see it as the stock grill goes back on. Since the original head unit cannot be changed, all you can do for better sound is to get better speakers and a sub woofer (mine was portable so you can take it out if you need more room in the boot) which is what I did. So 5" is the way to go. Left the rear speaker as is as its not too important for the sound as far as the driver is concerned.

BTW it was a typo in my earlier post. I meant that only the driver seat had the subwoofer underneath. Don't know about front passenger seat.

Well for starters, the N54 is more closely related to the old M54 block than the new N52. I hear what you're saying but I don't think its a good idea. Its unproven that the magnesium alloy block of the N52 is able to comfortably and reliably endure the high compression and heat that the turbos byproduces. As you may have heard, the 335is are prone to running at high temperatures which is worrying alot of owners/buyers.

Second, it is unproven how the valvetronic would work with the turbo setup. The N54 does away with the valvetronic mechanism. The turbos are supposes to increase efficiencies so they did away with the valvetronic in the N54 (redundant). Not sure how the Valvetronic would sync with the turbos.

Third, extensive hardware required to accomodate the turbo system. Most importantly is the software, to make it all run as in the 335i.

I think its simpler to wait for an aftermarket bolt on supercharger package with low boost.

Its true that our N52 engined cars are lacking attention from the aftermarket outside of the intakes, software tweaks and exhaust. All the attention has been on the N54.

sebbie, both front seats have the subwoofers making it 10 overall for our mid-grade Hi-Fi system.
