I cant find Davidyong's house from the map!! and some roads in Shah Alam factories area..The factories have been there for YEARS and its not even on the map!
We do need updated map so that the system can calculate the shortest route!!! If I can get an update just on klang valley roads, i will be satisfied.

That's sad Rachel. The 2007 map must be really bad. My 2008 version even has Ara Damansara in it, and that's a very new housing area. I've really never missed anything I searched for except DUKE ramps. I've even been guided on kampung roads up north where I do quite a bit of work!

My 2008 map is also outdated without MEX and Smart Tunnel. Anyway, I think the RM200 is a download and not the DVD. Anyone can confirm?

its not for the dvd . to buy the dvd is still bout rm 2000..
it's for the cars thas has idrive with HDD.

achtung, I found out it's a bootleg DVD ;) So please try it and if it works, just say so here. Don't post the chappie's details. If we're interested, we'll PM you and be extra polite to you.

You could be on your way to becoming our pimp for bootleg updates :)

PS: Pls check your PM for more.

Sure, and also all the search information. Eg, hotels and restaurants do change name/location. Let's hope achtung's upgrade works!

Mine is the 2010 version with Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Brunei map. I took a picture and mms to Rachel (I mean the navi map location to my house) and she told me hers can't find mine. Strange. My contact is charging RM 500 per copy of the DVD. If you really want, I can get it for anyone of you. PM me.

Uncle Schwepps..we have lunch soon ya ;p
David, because yours is 2010. Mine is 2007. I tried the old road name, new road name also cannot find. Even with ur MMS also cannot find. So mine really OUT-DATED. We should arrange one day to test for compatibility.

Hahaha! Bootlegging...the 2nd oldest profession in the world! It's all coming out now, see what you've started achtung? :108:

I was quoted about the same price as you DY. Apparently the pre-LCI DVD is a straightforward bootleg. The LCI DVD needs to be cracked because there is an upload code involved. achtung's price is much lower, so waiting to see if his deal works.

Yes rachel you r right by saying that its 2 different systmes and achtung is also correct both pre-2009 or post 2009 cars do have DVD players. THe pre-2009 cars uses the DVD discs to read the map data I suppose (correct me if i am wrong)ie. the DVD needs to be in there all the time, whereas the post 2009 cars just needs the DVD discs to be loaded in so that the map data can be downloaded into the internal built in HDD. There after, you can watch movies with your iDrive Control Display when your car is stationary/while idling.

Please check the CIC manual for the new i-Drive system for car post 2009 posted here:
http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/forums/showthread.php?34335-iDrive-Professional-Navigation-(CIC)

It will tell you that your assumption is correct

Haven't been here for a while.

How are y'all doing?

After having my LCI 325i for 7 months I think now I can say something about the Nav. Let's start with some of my real life experiences.

1 - Destination: Jalan PJS 10/20 in Sunway.
We know Sunway is technically in Petaling Jaya right? So I entered "Petaling Jaya" as city but the street is not found!! Tried "Sunway" and no luck, "Petaling" also cannot .. I tried everything else but it was impossible to locate the street. When I finally got to that street, I checked the location info and it says "Damansara". Who would have guessed it? SUPER FAIL

2 - Destination: Jalan Emas SD 5/1, Bandar Sri Damansara, 52200 Kuala Lumpur
Again, have to enter city before I can locate the street. Tried Kuala Lumpur, Sungai Buloh, Kepong, Bandar Sri Damansara but they were all WRONG. Checked location info when I got there, it says Petaling. Come on man, Petaling for a Wilayah address???? SUPER FAIL

3 - Destination: Jalan BU 1/13, Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya
This one wasn't so hard to locate because it's found under Petaling Jaya, where it should be. The official road name is Jalan BU 1/13 but on the nav it's recorded as Jalan Bandar Utama 1/13. However if you wanna go to BU 1/12 the entry on the nav is recorded as 'Jalan BU 1/12', you can't apply your BU 1/13 lesson here. This is considered small matter, PJ is still quite organized. Tolerated

4 - Destination: Jalan TIB 1/3, Taman Industri Bolton, 68100 Batu Caves, Selangor
Common sense tells you to dig the address under Batu Caves right? Nope. Not Taman Batu Caves, not Kawasan Industries Bolton .. but WTF... Gombak? I know Gombak is a daerah lah but it's not mentioned on official address. Even if you got the city right, entering the street name is still a pain in the a**. Official street name is just 'Jalan TIB 1/3', TIB for Taman Industri Bolton, makes sense right? On the system it's recorded as 'Jalan Taman Industri Bolton 1/3'. The street name is so long the screen can't display the whole thing .. this is what you get:

...17; JALAN TAMAN INDUST...
...19; JALAN TAMAN INDUST...
...2; JALAN TAMAN INDUSTRI...
...3; JALAN TAMAN INDUSTRI...

Bro, Sunway is in Mukim Damansara (so is Subang Jaya). Bandar Sri Damansara is in Petaling, Taman Industri Bolton is in Gombak, and so on. Germans are very exact people and follow exactly what JUPEM says on its official maps, not what is popular among locals, or interpretations by developers and other departments such as the post office and local authorities.

As you say, we're not consistent nor even correct in naming things and places. Most people (including TV and radio announcers) don't even know how to pronounce the name of the country correctly, and call it 'Malay-shia'!

Agree that Sunway is in Mukim Damansara but I never knew sometimes I need to input mukim name as city on the nav. Subang Jaya is in mukim Damansara too but why we can just enter 'Subang Jaya'?

Bolton is in daerah Gombak, which is not a city!! It should be recorded under Batu Caves.. Same thing for Bandar Sri Damansara, Petaling as a daerah not city! It would make more sense if it was recorded under Sungai Buloh. Technically it's in Selangor, maybe the developer marketed it as Kepong, Kuala Lumpur to fetch higher price.

I don't think our local map has anything to do with the Germans. They only developed the system and the our map content is provided by 3rd party local organization.

Negeri -> Daerah -> Mukim -> Bandar -> Area -> Projects named by developers .. geez which one to follow man!!!!

And I don't think general public know of JUPEM official map, in fact it's very good already if we're given a correct address before we head to somewhere.

Waiting for Google Maps Navigation for iPhone. This shall end all my navigation miseries.

http://www.google.com/mobile/navigation/

Here's the rub: none of the 'Xyz Damansaras' is actually in Damansara. Blame this on the developers who just wanted to associate their projects with Bukit Damansara (which is not in Damansara either because it's in KL! :D) Wouldn't sound so good if it were for eg, Mutiara Sungai Buluh, would it? The townships actually in Damansara are Subang Jaya and surrounding areas.

Whoever does GPS map plotting can't and shouldn't follow this messy nomenclature, and has to follow the official JUPEM maps.

I tried going to MPS Auto on Jalan PJS 7/17 and guess what... same thing like you. The Navigation of CIC don't have Jalan PJS listed at all. So fat chance. Luckily I use Google Map on my iPhone to track it down :)

Ah... wouldn't it be nice if they allow use of MalFreeMaps or MalSing on the CIC.....

Same mate. I rely on iPhone heavily. Our CIC Nav is not user-friendly at all ...

Exactly...that's the whole point of having a navigation system, so you can get to areas you are not familiar with. Very frustrating when someone has given you an address, and the city name that they have given you does not match the city name in navigation. Ideally, there should be a way to search by road name without needing to enter the city. The navigation system should be powerful enough to support such a search...

Search by road name would be a huge improvement. But imagine having hundreds of "Jalan 3" or "Jalan Besar" on the list ...

Using GPS in Malaysia is a discounted experience ...

Like everything else, you need to learn how to use the platform that you have, or are using. I have no problems with BMW NavPro, and have even found kampong roads in rural areas when I use it for my work. I've been using GPS since it was first available to the public, more than a decade now. GPS can't help you if you're given an address like Bandar Sri Damansara, 52200 Kuala Lumpur, when it's actually in Selangor. As are areas like Batu Caves, Ampang, Cheras, etc which most people think are part of KL when they aren't. Blame that on the lack of accuracy and consistency in our systems rather than on GPS.

The only thing I would rue about NavPro is that you can't enter lat-long, which is the best way to use GPS. But its great integration with phone and car obviate that weakness. I like it very much! :top:

PS: Kota Kemuning IS in Klang. But maybe people prefer to put Shah Alam at the end of their address...
