hi all, just a general question here. I have conflicting infos regarding tyres used on 325i.Is it correct that front uses : 225/45 and rear uses 255/40 ?My problem is, i went to AB Segambut and they said my tyres size is not correct.I uses 225/45 in front non-RFT and still using RFT on the rear which is 255/40.They said i should be using both on 40. Is it correct?FYI, am planning to change the RFT to normal tyre soon.thanks, newbie

Im using 17 inch.

so, its correct to use 225/45/r17 front and 255/40/r17 rear?

Yes its the correct OEM size for 17's mated with type 161 BMW wheels.

Very easy to check.. the side wall or series of whether 45 or 40 is a ratio or percentage over the width of the tyres.

So,

Front: 45 series 225 = 225mm x 45% = 101.25mm (502 Rev/km)
Rear: 40 series 255 = 255mm x 40% = 102mm (501 Rev/km)

Now if you listen to the SC and use 40 series 225 for your front, 225mm x 40% = 90mm, meaning your front tyre would be 102-90=12mm thinner. (520 Revs/km)

At least the 225/45R17 and 255/40R17 only gives u a negligible 0.75mm in difference, which of course is a lot more acceptable.

thanks astroboy for the thorough explanations,

Shit man, how come those guys working with BMW know nothing abt this. I talked to 2 of their service advisors and also one mechanic. They ALL asked me to change my front tyres to 40!! Damn.

thanks.

hakeemi, Really sad that they don't even know simple facts like this. How to trust them with the harder stuff. It just send shivers down my spine......brrrrrrr :( AB seems to have lost a lot of their experienced people and now seems to have to start again from scratch, at the expense of their customers. That is one reason even after buying my car from AB I never go back to them for service. For sure my next car will not be from them either.

If you're using Styling 161 rims then :

225/45 R17 front (8J x17)
255/40 R17 rear (8.5J x 17)

If you're using styling 159 then its all 225/45 (8J x 17).

Dunno how they can say all must be 40?

im using double spoke style-161.
