Hey bro . . Is your dad's merc still in good condition ? ? If you cant wait for both new model to be out . . Try to look for E280 V6 rather than E230 . . If let me choose between 230 or 530 sure i choose 530 . . But a E280 performance is quite good as well . . A relative of mine own a E280 for almost a year . . Everything going perfect .

Actually it depends on your dad's personal favourite . . Go for a test drive for both cars . .

Yep! The above 5-series GT is great for JPB's dad.. absolutely awesome!

See whether his dad loves a performance car or luxury and comfort lo !!! But most 40s ppl prefer merc i duno why ! !

JPB get him to wait for the new 5 or even Merc E class and then go shopping :). As long as he doesn't take your E92 when his car breaks down again LOL. Give him the Smart instead kakaka.

sorry out of topic,
but why not just add a little more....
can get the nice new 7 series. hehehe

Thanks for your feedback, everyone. Ultimately, the preference is to wait for the new models. I don't like the new E cos the looks seem cheap and old fashioned i.e. like a new Syangyong. The spy shots of the F10 looks much better but BMW has deferred its launch due to the global economic crises. Also, the new models tend to cost an arm and a leg when it's first launched. I was told the new E, which comes as a E300 CBU will arrive end of the year with a price tag of almost a whopping RM600k.

My dad's car developed another problem recently, and yes, E46F, I loaned him the SMART instead this time after he curbed my E92's front bumper the last time. He has used my E92 twice, the first time he kerbed my 18s. When I confronted him why he kerbed the front bumper, he just said the "front sensor" didn't sound. My E92 323i doesn't come with a front sensor, so it's BMW's fault for speccing a RM338k car so poorly.

Both are end of life, tbh. Dropping close to 400k on a car that will be current for maybe less than a year doesn't really make sense in my head. I've bought a car that was superceded after a year and a half, and spent the subsequent 5 years of ownership looking longingly at the new model wishing for all the new toys in there... it may not bother some people, but I do like something current.

That being said, I do understand the attractiveness of a good deal. Ultimately it's up to you (or your dad) whether you are satisfied with having an old model a year or two from now. And you're asking a BMW forum to assist in a choice between a Beemer and a Merc... I think the answer would be pretty obvious haha

i m thinking exactly the same when i decided to wait for E90's debut in 2005 which i withheld my E46 325i sport 'attractive' package. back then. i dont wanna drive an outdated model while admiring the new model, the feeling is very de 'sour'...

however, there's always pros and cons after speaking to some friends which revealed that they'd rather go for a late model b'cos of fantastic equipments added which were previously priced higher on some higher spec models. 2nd, good financing packages.
3rd, they are not likely be targetted by highjackers/ robbers since the model is old and getting obsolete soon, thus safe to drive.

After a while, i tot what they said perfectly make sense in reality. Save money, lotsa goodies, perhaps..saves ur life. :listen:

Having gotten a CBU E90 early 2006 booked in 2005, i must say i've learned my mistake since i wanted Idrive + m-sport so bad back then...

just my tots for sharing..

Yeah, that's just life ya know. In the end though, I rather go for the new model but it's painful when you do and all kinds of goodies are added along the way. I experienced the same thing with my pre-facelift E46 325i which didn't even have electronic seats!! Worse still, when the engine is uprated i.e. in the E60 like what happened to johnchen. His 192 bhp E60 525i was replaced by the 218 bhp version one week after he bought the car for a price differential of only 10k. Man, I remember he was fuming!

Spoke to my dad recently and he says he's not in a hurry. I hate the new E's looks! I hope the F10 turns out like the better pictures, particularly like the picts of the interior, very modern and space age!

the e60 has gone thru too many upgrades and facelifts and it is pissing all the e60 buyer thru out its product cycle...just take the CKD 525 for example...

2004 to Sept 2005 - e60 525 launch with M54B25 192bhp engine and simple i-drive (M-ASK)
Sept 2005 to end 2007 - M-Sport Version, N52B25 218bhp engine, push start button, new communication bus and electronics system, 324mm/310mm brakes
end 2007 to May 2009 - LCI, Updated N52N 218bhp engine, Nav Pro, HUD & Smaller brakes
May 2009 to current - New HDD I-Drive & Sunroof

price almost the same thru out the product cycle...so at the each upgrade, previous buyer will say WTF!!!! but that life...for them to sell they need to update it continuously but this cause customer dissatisfaction...nothing is perfect...

let's not say like this...
every product has its lifecycle... for Continental car I'll say it's about 5-7 years before its replacement is rolled out. They will keep offering something new to the buyers as time goes by in order to maintain sales.

Hi JPB, i believe your dad is doing the right thing...i know that this waiting game is painful one. having said that, as you probably remember, I went ahead and got myself an e46 330i in Nov 2005 (from AB) just months after the e90 was launched and almost all my friends questioned my decision. Guess what, it turned up to be one of the best decisions and purchases i ever made. I sold the car 2 years later and until today, the new (proud) owner sends me sms-es telling me how happy he is with the car...the current e60 will inevitably look dated by the time the F10 is launched by end of next year and you (or your dad) will stand to lose much more in depreciation but would you want to be amongst the first to own an F10 in Malaysia?. BMW has improved a lot but new models do come with a price...imperfection.

Have you considered the W221 S300L?

Very well specced for 600k.

My E60 525i M-Sport is going top Hap Seng Star sometime next week or the week after on a one way trip whilst i pick up the W221 S300L.

Very good value now, good options and amazing comfort. After 3 years in the 525i with 20' rims, H&R springs, im really looking forward to the comfort that the W221 has to offer.
