I'm helping my dad to evaluate and choose a new car now that his current W211 E240 is almost 5 years old. I thought the choice would be easy with a new but 2008 pre-reg E60 530i going for about RM380k. I love this particular car cos it comes in Platinum Grey and is fully loaded with the latest toys such as Heads Up Display, Paddle Shifters, Night Vision etc etc. More importantly, the 272 bhp makes it a very nice ride! Having been allowed to use one over the weekend, I'm pretty much sold. HOWEVER, as some of you are aware, Mercedes is dumping the price of the current W211 series and I have just been offered a spanking new E230 V6 Avantgarde for RM360k. This comes with a 2.5 ltr V6, 207 bhp and 7-G transmission and it's fully loaded as well with GPS Sat Nav, Panaromic Sun Roof etc etc. I just saw this car and I must say, it makes a pretty convincing case for itself esp. at this price. In fact, Mercedes is throwing new E200k for only RM270k! So, how ah?

I wouldn't want to let a 530i tapao me when I'm in E230:love:
E240 --> E230 same W211.. Not sien meh :love:

It all depends on wat you want as I don't think money is a problem for someone who can afford nice car. If you're looking for good pick-up, go for the bimmer & only looking for slow/comfort driving, got for mercedes.

I have got friends that bought E60 just because it looks fast and furious. Most of the time is chauffeur driven.. :stupid:

Merc E-Class he said make him look old and not that suitable for someone in their 30's..

DUDE, GO FOR THE 530i!!!!!!!!!!!!! (purposely done in caps so that i get your attn and i mean attn!! at this freakin hour...damn i shd be asleep, good nite mate)

UNLESS OF COURSE YOUR DAD HAS THE WILL POWER TO WAIT FOR F10. GOOD LUCK ANYWAY! CHIAO.

Both are end of life, tbh. Dropping close to 400k on a car that will be current for maybe less than a year doesn't really make sense in my head. I've bought a car that was superceded after a year and a half, and spent the subsequent 5 years of ownership looking longingly at the new model wishing for all the new toys in there... it may not bother some people, but I do like something current.

That being said, I do understand the attractiveness of a good deal. Ultimately it's up to you (or your dad) whether you are satisfied with having an old model a year or two from now. And you're asking a BMW forum to assist in a choice between a Beemer and a Merc... I think the answer would be pretty obvious haha

should also consider the E280 V6..very nice car..smooth and silent..any good deals on this model?

I agree with you.. I'll prefer something current.. and car value will drop half after new model launch..

If your father can wait, why not wait a little while longer for the latest F10??? After all, it's due to launch anytime end of this year or next year the latest :top:
If not, your father can decide... does he love the looks of E60 as well as it's engine performance, or is he looking for comfortable ride???

Thule,

F10 will only be launched end 2010. Too long for some people.

Maverick00,
It will worth the wait... as patience has its virtue :D
the car is only 5 years old... some people drove their car longer than that la... I guess it's just for the sake of changing the car. If his current ride is still OK, why not drive it longer and then sell it as soon as the new model is launched???
Even the new E-Class is launched but has not reached Malaysian shore yet. That is why I ask whether he prefers the look & performance, or the comfortable ride :D

JPB: the current e-class is a very nice car. good equipment levels, as with all makes and marques, will see that the car is even more of a pleasure to own.

if you were to jump from the current e-class to the newly launched one that has yet to reach our shores, i would say its not worth it as the overall feeling of ownership and usability is very similar.

for me, i would never trade in an E46 320i for an E90 320i (i use 320 because it doesnt have idrive).

externally, my wife can barely tell the difference. internally, sans idrive, its basically the same experience.

same with the current on the road e-class to the newly launched one. now the COMMAND unit is ontop ala idrive with the knob but function wise, nothing new. innovation wise, maybe a few new innovations here and there.

what i was trying to get across is that if you wanted to wait out the new E-class and buy that at RM4xx, i would go with the current one.

But if you wanted to buy the E60 or wait out the F10, i would wait out the F10, even at RM4xx because the car looks, (feels from the way it look inisde) different and looks to be a different experience altogether!

thats just my 2c though. im a sucker for REVOLUTION. not evolution. i was under the impression that the F10 would be an EVOLUTION of the E60 but that didnt seem to be the case like the E34 - E39.

they changed the whole car and brought it as close as possible to the F01/02 which i think is a good thing.
