Does anyone here own an E60 525d, or has driven one? Interesting beast - 177bhp, 400Nm and quoted in AB's price list at RM388,000.00. Should be a viable alternative to the 525i (218bhp, 250Nm)... I have never seen one in Malaysia though.

In fact, the E60 525d can do the 0-100km/h sprint in 8.1 seconds for the manual (n/a in M'sia) and 8.3 seconds for the automatic. Not bad at all.

agreed the 270cdi on rexton can go anytime above 180km/h...even with such a body

Hi guys,
I'm a newbie to beemers but have always had the hots for a 5er. Will shortly be looking for a secondhand diesel. I know the thread is more than a year old but what's the view on the 525d in terms of performance and reliability currently? I saw a number of used 525d on sale at AB for 310k ie 2006 models.
Your inputs will be appreciated.
Cheers.

i know some one using 525d. very good. easy 235km//h .full tank 800km. road tax less than 1k.midrange torque mind blowing. he bought it new. very happy. there is less than 20 units brought in. thinking mans 530d. without heavy road tax. 525d remap can push 230hp and 555nm .torque. dms remap. my 2 cents.

Tinman,
that's outstanding. Wonder why brought in only 20 units if this is so. A couple of weeks ago, AB was selling about 3-4 of these babies and I was wondering why no takers. In fact, even the 530d is not that common. Is the quality of our diesel deterring high performance diesels being brought in and hesitation from potential buyers?

bmw diesal is far superior to merc cdi. they did not bring in alot due to cbu status.and 525d was in fact the best selling e60 in euro so demand was strong there.. and i believe u get bsr and service free. this friend has just booked an x5 3.0d. and keeping his e60. my two cents its the best e60 other than m5:rock: .bmw diesal can cope wit local diesal. there are plans to ckd 320d.early next year.i think bmw did their homework properly.

Tinman,
thanks for info. Makes more sense to me now that you mentioned its all CBU. Understand the current 525d has 3l engine. Contacting AB now to check up on their used units.

Sure about the road tax part? For a 2.5l diesel engine should be around RM1,800. That's already after the 40% discount for private ownership.

I am thinking of getting a 5-series soon as well. Was considering the 525d or 530d as one of the options. Good info tinman. Thanks

road tax less than 1k. yes. u can call ab to double check:top:

If less than RM1K that would put it almost same level as the 525i. I always thought diesel road tax would be higher. I even have a PDF file from JPJ detailing all the road tax calculations, and it would come up to around RM1,800.

Or maybe the road tax quoted to you was only half-year? Anyway, will check with AB on this

road tax one year 932.++. confirm. for personal user. just to update. best hidden e60 in the market.

Hi Tinman,
what's the roadtax under co. registration?

Alxy,
I'm thinking along same line...ie 525d or 530d. I'm a cheapskate though as looking for used ones...AB has a couple of units of the former but have not test driven any yet.

Hmm... then it's really worth considering... am curious to know how 400Nm affects this car :burnout:

thanks tinman

I am driving 530d ith HARTGE chip tuning. You can feel the G-force but since diesel quality is not that clean, I need to do frequent cleaning ofr breahter valve, throttle body and intake manifold

Hi, how frequent is frequent..ie base on mileage or periodic monthly, bimonthly? I'm seriously considering getting a diesel for its fuel economy but no point if more than offset by higher maintenance costs.
The other reason why diesel is for its tree trunk pulling torque...need this in case boxed in by car hijackers ie bull-doze my way out....
Thanks guys.
