any advice on turbo install on e46 2.0? what is the process? what hardware do I need? where do I go for install?

if u're talking about a custom setup, it will be a long and painful process. off my head, u will need a new manifold, turbo, piping work, intercooler, injectors, piggyback ecu, thicker head gasket, fuel regulator. price wise depending on new/used parts. and also depending on how much u're intending to push the car.

off topic. i'm still very intrigued by the remote turbo setup i've seen on the E60. turbo's sitting at the rear wheels. i guess big cc engines have enough air to keep it driveable. anyone with a 4.0/5.0 wanting to try? :D

ramsing...

waa.. you know so much about turbo cars ..

how's the car so far ? tiong anyone yet ?

pussy-in-boots.....i know little bit la. driving plotong turbo for 7 years, so picked up few things here n there. :) nothign beats the pull of FI though :D

car is ok now, driving well and f/c back to what it shoudl be. how to tiong ppl? car only 1.9litre, based on En.535i calculation of your car :D

ive not done much research on E46s but for E36 ive already started building up my motor.
For a 300hp motor you need least 17k - 23k
For a 600hp motor you need least 30-40k for it. yup!:)
ive never research much on 46s like i said cos it runs on OBDII and most 46s are running on automatic transmission.
Prices are expensive due to the standalone im currently researching on.
Good luck on your quest!

most basic hardware/parts you need
Most important of all, if you are using an auto try finding a manual transmission or SMGII.
1. Multi layered h/g
2. Fuel Reg.
3. Fuel Inj.
4. Garrett GT25 or equilavent (depending on hp)
5. Turbo manifold
6. Possible, headstuds.

For a 2.5 motor you will be running least 250hp at 8psi?
with a .120" h/g you will bring your compression down to maybe 8:5:1

Others are the common stuff of turbocharging. Intercooler, pipes, hoses, bigger exhaust, etc...

just curios, has anyone successfully done a 500-600hp motor here in m'sia? with a bmw engine. i would guess M20 would be the easiest. what about the newer ones?

Actually, I asked my mechanic the same question, he told me it's cheaper for me to sell my 318 and get a 330

how about sr20? will this be troublesome/xpensiv? i'm looking for 350 bhp enough

its easy to gain the BHP without cost a lot of money..just put RB25det or SR20 black top into ur E46 like my fren did...with ECU piggy back u can get even 350-400hp just like that :D cost around 5-10k ( engine + labour + tuning )...if u out of money...then try for SUpercharger..like my fren did to his 318i as well..2 of my fren played with SC...one of them using a Levin supercharge to his 318i..and one more using supercharge from Estima also 318i 1.9cc...the mechanic said it is easy to plug in 318i since the engine space more than 6 cylinder...and most of my fren who had done the modification used megasquirt piggy back standalone management for tuning ECU.. :D...

if u r rich...change to M5 6 cylinder to ur E46 + RB25 turbo or Technic supercharge for bimmer..cost over RM20k...coz the supercharge only cost RM15k..(specific for 6cylinder UDM engine ) but im not sure the cost for old M5 engine at half cut...havent research about that yet..coz im still searching the best way for my 318i as well...coz i still wanna stick to bimmer engine..might go for M5 6cylinder...i had found the engine in ebay..it cost about 1000-1200 pounds...sure in RM about RM7k..so total with labour around 10-12k tough...but sure nice with more than 200HP on ur E46 :D..satisfied tough :D

guru..

yes the sr20 or known as the s14 black top engine is good to 350hp done on a race s13 car which i help build. put a s14 engine in a e30, which will give you 278hp on engine on 0.9bar boost.

good enough on a e30 with good handling cos of 4 cylinder.:D

my best best, buy a e30 for 15k, dump 10k in, then you will have a fun car manual and good enough for weekend fun. better dump the money into another car than a spend alone 29k on a sc. further more, got a basic 46 to do a daily run..:p

let me know, cos i can fix you up the proper people.

cheers.:)

pussy is a gurl or boy? good idea but i want/need only 1 car..so many cars will only confuse me!

i m a stray cat that feeds onto other forumers where they go..

i m not a boy/ neither a gal.. so want help ?

if you can buy a sc or turbo, for that much price, why waste it.. the e46 was designed to be a NA car fun to drive and super handling.. i have two cars, one manual, one auto.. both fun to have.. further more, the older the model, the better the fun..

come to this official tt for june..

regards.

Hi... I'm a newbie... I drive the N42 e46 318i 2.0. I'm planning to supercharge the car..... I'll be abit confident if this was done by a mechnic that has done the same work before.... Could you provide me the contact of the mechanic who fitted your friend's car with Levin Supercharger and the Megasquirt piggy back Unit..... I'm planning to do the same as well for my ride :)

the piggyback wont work on your car. the best is you buy a proper kit wiht tuning included. might be a problem to find a kit for a 2.0. good luck
