Hi all, I'm getting my first ever bmw car this week, it is the lowest range of turbo engine found in bmw families - 320d. yeah ...One question to ask, as we all know that a turbo timer is to let the engine continue running for a certain period of time (30s or more...) this is to prevent damage to the engine after a heavy run or after we "whack the engine.I checedk thru the forum, and it seen like no one has mentioned a turbo timeris needed in these car. Does a turbo timer needed for turbo diesel engine ? or bmw turbo diesel car already has the protection if a turbo diesel engine shutdown/stop after a long and heavy run ?

You have made an excellent choice :top:

No turbo timers in this car but the usual advise is to drive the car gently at least 30 sec before shutting off the engine.

...with the immobiliser chip on your keys , the turbo timer will not work...bcos as soon as you leave the car with the keys the engine will shut off....well for some cars this is an issue dunno abt BMW..could be the same.

Meaning, we got to do manual timer, i.e. sitting in the car for 30s b4 stopped the engine :)

Hm... may be there is a way to do it. As most of the Jap turbo cars have immobiliser installed.

....as far as I know Turbo Timers do not come as standard with the car...but immobiliser normally comes with the car ...so the solution I suppose was to sacrifice the immobiliser for the Turbo Timer....but like you said there could be a way around it.

does the car really need a turbo timer? my family has a year 2000 diesel intercooler turbo pajero...there's no turbo timer...we just shut off the engine like that...

In fact there are many turbo diesel engine cars do not install the timer. That's why I am curious to know whether bmw need to install one....
