E46 parts & maintenance

Today did a normal service @ M Speed Taman Mayang, went around the Taman Mayang Industrial area, saw Studdgart, M Power and few other conti car service shops but all full packed...so decided to just go to M Speed.

1) Engine oil: BMW Super Power Oil ACEA:A3/B3/B4 SAE 5W-40 Longlife 98 Fully Synthetic (seriously I also dunno whether its ori or not but M Speed got only either Mobil and this one so I choosed this one hoping its ok) 1Litre = RM 52 x 5Litres = RM260.00
2) 1 x Ori Oil Filter = RM 48.00
3) Labour Chargers and Gov. Tax (blarddy hell, first time I service car got tax one): RM 26.50

Grand total: RM 334.50, got 50 cent discount = RM334.00 (somewhat expensive but anyway my first time servicing my ride since I bought it from the used car 2 months ago)

Any comments from sifus here bout the pricing above? Cheers

complete with pulley and tensioner

Would go for DIY (with Mechanic supervision

I think so bro,... hmmm how would it efect engine oli? I mean the water pump is the culprit in the end... would it cause the water to mix with engine oil? Or was it the overheat problem...

You drove the car until engine shutdown ... that's very serious. Blown head gasket, crack cylinder head or the most dreaded a cracked engine block can cause water to seep in via the water jackets.

i feel a little relief that there is no tale-tale sign of that (milky residue in oil stick and cap...)


Then again a blown head gasket will not allow me to even start the engine i reckon?

Got all fixed today with my own Mechanic... Gave him 100 for thanks (was DIY + advice)

Problem: Engine vibrate and shake on "D" while idle without aircon 500-600RPM
Solution: 2 Corteco Engine mounts and 2 Lemforder gear box mountings

Damage: 680RM all in

Next service due soon: Foreman recommend semi syn Shell 4 L @ 160
Ok for BMWS?

so it is recommended to use fully syn ? w40? i hear most conti cars uses a thinner lube which is the w30? any truth to that?

I ask them and they said that they bought in quantity from Castrol Malaysia ... How to know it's fake or not it's beyond me ...

It's true that a layman can't tell the difference between fake and original. Once you hear your hydraulic lifters making noises, then you know the lube is fake. This happened to a friend of mine (e39 528i) using fake Shell lube.
