Oil Change

Bardhal full synthetic 5W-40 x 2 = RM180
Oil Filter = RM35
Labour and diagnostic = RM60

What can i say ... money was kinda short but i still wanna maintain my OCI of 8k-10k km. So from a recommendation from friends in mybenz.org and contilovers.com ... I went ahead and use the oil. Cheap and cheerful it is but what i wasn't expecting is how smooth my engine is :top: and the engine revs nicely w/o a hint of sluggishness (previous is Havoline 5w-30 :top:)... Now let's see how good is this oil in d long run and how long can last this feel good factor :D.
My initial impression of Bardahl 5W-40 fully synthetic is it's a good quality oil and it's quite cheap whereby it allows you to have a shorter OCI say around 7k-8k km because of the price.

But alas IMHO if you want to have a longer OCI say around 12-15k km's then it's better to use a LL-01 approved oils like Castrol Edge, Mobil 1 Ow-40 and so on.

Last month changed tyres, this month kena lagi...
(E46 N42B20)
Cam cover Gasket : RM 220 11120032224
O-rings for solenoid valve: RM8 11361439705 & 11367506178
Flange Gasket: RM35 11377502022
Gasket glue: RM12
TOTAL: RM275
Did the change DIY with a friend, took hours to do mainly to clean the sludge from the head cover (banyak gila!) but made one silly mistake, over tightened the solenoid valve o ring bracket bolt and broke it. My advice is to ensure you put gasket glue for that o-ring to prevent leak and dont use rachet for that tiny M10 bolt. Now solenoid valve is held by temporary plate until I can remove the bolt from the head block...(sehari suntuk terasa bangang)

^^^ nice one bro ... we need more diy people in the forum :) hehe maybe we can do a diy get together day ...

you should have drain the OIL and then use flushing oil to flush the engine to clear the sludge. It is much easier.

hi all, i am new member who will be getting a used e46 yr 2002 CKD.
was offered +-90k for the car...not sure if it is gonna be a good buy but eagerly watiing to try on for this UDM after yrs of hving jap car.

anything that i need to particularly notice for a used e 46? visibly the car is in good condition and engine too "looked" pleasant, anywhere, gonna get my mechanic to check on it.

THanks and glad to join this forum

Judging from the amount of sludge accumulated, flushing alone may not be able to remove it considering I did it before and the gasket was already leaking on the side nearer to ABS pump....the usual "penyakit for N42 engine. The gasket and o rings I removed were hardened and brittle...its 7 years old already by the way

Gentleman,

Need some advice, will the E46 perform better or less after an engine block and top head overhaul (side effects positive vs negative)?

any idea how much it cost?

Cheers,

Looks reasonable for E90. Was it done at BMW dealer or others?

My ride is a E46 330i la bro, i didn't know it can cost that much tho  But it's understandable tho cos 330 brakes are bigger and it stops on a dime. caranddriver.com did a test and the 330 even outbrakes the E46 M3 (158ft vs 161ft from 70mph to 0)  but if repeat the test a few times or at a track then the M3 does it better with less brake fade :D

p/s: the brake pads change was done by my mech :D
