My first service after getting the car at 70,000km. Serviced the car at M-Speed and changed engine oil and oil filter only. Cost at RM338. Took me less than half an hour only! Ah Meng and John are both very firendly.

To change ATF and its filter at 75,000km :)

The price that I was quoted, RM110 for the front signal lamp and RM90 for the front small signal lamps on the fender. So total RM200. Was thinking of installing it myself... I got the rear lamps for RM400 with wiring kit(was open box unit, unused, someone bought it and decided to sell off the car) fitted it myself... now waiting for a secondhand pair of white lights front from my friend's half cut shop... FOC.

Which cut shop do you might to check if accept trade in of BMW parts (engL original bumpers with fog lamps, eye lids , or exchange of rear smoke tail light to new facelift).

Please let me know thanks.

Hi Dopodo,

Please snap some photos on the stuff that u wanna sell. My friend might be interested. By the way what color is the original bumper ?

Sound like M-Speed provides better service with reasonable price for parts. I just do a oil change in Georgetown, Penang (recommanded by Penang bimmer) and the cost is RM460.90 (Engine Oil RM376.00, Oil Filter RM45 and Service Charge RM38) compared with RM340 at M-Speed. I should go M-Speed for a look. Anyone there can tell me where M-Speed is. Thanks.

Add: Just found out the location of Dr Meng's workshop. SUPER-BRAND on BMW forum! :)

Parts cost for radiator components!!!!!

Guys,

Just changed a whole lot of radiator related components on my E46 2000 318i M43 108K mil. Here is the damage :-

Parts purchased outside from a BMW sparepart shop in SEA PARK
1.) Expansion tank - RM175
2.) KWP Water Pump - RM135
3.) Top Hose - RM105
4.) Bottom Hose - RM90
5.) Thermostat(Expansion tank unit) - RM195

Parts and labour for the job(Done at a BMW specialist shop in Taman Mayang)
1.) Engine Thermostat - RM180 (I think can get cheaper outside)
2.) Coolant - RM30
3.) Oil Filter Housing Repair Kit - RM50 (realized oil pan is wet with oil)
4.) Labour to replace water/radiator components - RM126
5.) Labour to repair oil leak - RM126

Total bill : RM1212.00

I won't say it is expensive. The parts cost is reasonable to me, I previously owned a WIRA 1.8 DOHC and the parts are just slightly cheaper.

Chechjn & Taggnas, are you two using Ravenol engine oil from Germany? I find this oil very good with good response and power. No oil loss so far and what more it's 100% from Germany, ie, no mixture like famous brand oil. My service with 7 litres, RM300 ... engine oil, oil filter and reset.

Taggnas, your ride 325?

M-Speed currently is promoting Ravenol.... so chances are Chechjn & Taggnas would have used that. Mine is also on Ravenol

Guys,

I'm a newbies here, Can anybody assist me where is M-Spees located. Coz i'm going to service my car soon....

hi all,
serviced mine today.BMW e46 316i 2001.
now scratching my head where to balance the budget till the end of this of this month.
1.engine oil(shell) and filter - rm 192
2.decarbonising engine fluid - rm 30
3.lower arm bush 1 pair - rm 380
4.coolant - rm 32 ( i took another extra bottle to keep just in case )
5.labor charge servicing - rm 45
6.labor charge to replace arm bush -rm 65
now my ride feels much more stable , no more shaking engine when i go beyond 110km/hr
this are all done in the east coast ..would you think theres much difference in the price if i did all those things in klang valley area ?
feedbacks much welcome..tq.

Hmmmm... the lower arm bush looks a bit expensive. Thought it was below RM300 per pair.

A little note on the decarbonising engine fluid. I have been in the racing industry for 7 years. Actively building endurance race engines for japanese/local cars for the 12 hour MME race for almost 5 years and taken many pole position finishes for class B. I have never used an engine cleaner fluid on either the race cars or my customer's cars(I do co-own a workshop). I personally feel that using an engine cleaner might further deteriorate the condition of the engine as you can never drain the engine clean of the fluid after using it. These cleaners are basically petroleum based solvents and will mix with the new oil and might cause some extra wear and tear in the engine as the new oil might lose it's properties. Just my 2 cents, I would rather stick to the usual 5K service intervals with a semi synt oil and a new oil filter.

Alert - Lousy workshop

Hi Guys,
Just to share my recent bad experience with a BMW specialized workshop called M-Roadster located in Pandan Indah.

I sent in my E46 for a normal servicing last week. During the normal servicing I was alerted by the boss there that there's some indication of engine oil leak and I needed to replace the gasket rubber seal which I agreed since it has not been replaced for a few years now.

When I got my car after the repair, I started the engine and noticed that the engine alert warning lamp was lighted. I immediately informed the workshop boss and the first words that came out from his mouth was whether the warning light was already there before they touched my car! Finally he got his mechanic to check the engine again and found that they have forgotten to connect back a cable plug when they replaced the rubber seal. So they had to do a computer reset.

They did not apologize for the mistake, and just pass me my keys saying that everything was alright. I drove away for less than 2 km when I notice there's smoke coming out from the sides of the bonnet. When I opened up the bonnet after stopping the car by the roadside, there was engine oil spewing out. I called up the workshop and after waiting for more than 30 mins, they send 2 mechanics to assist me.
And then the 1st words that the mechanics said was that I shouldn't have bought the E46 04 2.0l version. He said I should have bought the 2001 1.9l version which he claimed was more reliable. After checking it for a few minutes, he finally exclaimed that the cap for the engine oil wasn't closed properly, so the oil spewed out. And who's fault was that!

I carefully droved back to the workshop to ask for an engine oil refill and to clean up the engine. But I was shocked when the boss said that the engine oil remaining was still enough although when I looked at the measuring rod, it was already near the minimum level. He didn't even apologize for the pain he caused to my baby. As I was already late to pick up my daughter from dancing class, I just went off without even bothering to scold that bastard.

Just stay away from this terrible workshop, fellow beemer owners. They are just so incompetent!
