318i E46 year 2002

Hi all I am new to this forum.

I just bought a used BMW 318i E46 year 2002 with 19k KM. What should I look for to service this car. The previous owner has changed the oil last in 2006. I called AB workshop a few days ago and they told me I have to do a major service? My indicator shows the next service due in 4K K. Thanks.::top:

1 thing I realise is...a majority of cars for sale in Malaysia have really low mileage...why is that? I guess not everybody uses their UDM as a daily driver?

Maybe the mileage has been tempered somehow. I still remember for normal protong car they can lower down the mileage by opening the dashboard. There's a shop that doing this with a cheap labour cost. Don't trust the mileage man. Think year 2002 with 19k of mileage...how can that be. Maybe the previous owner just go to his backyard with his car go and back...never go anywhere else. 19k/6 = 3.16k per year... if use life long engine oil ...he still do not need to service his car yet until now. hehhee :smokin:

Its quite silly to buy a car for 6 years driving 19k's only...I only see exotic cars do that...lol....so 1 year drive 3000km's? -___- silly

I think you need to check carefully man...don't get con. hehehe...better get some experience bimmer expert to check first. If really 19k only...for sure there's less wear and tear thing...or maybe you checked the wrong meter...maybe the service interval not the mileage....hehehe......6 years car ...roughly the minimum maybe around 60k... mine when I bought it already 123k.

Hi Gopaiah

Is this a typo error? Sounds too good a 2002 car with 19k km.
Myself and other Otais here would be able to help, but pls introduce yourself in the newbie section.

I am staying somewhere near butterworth, we have a TT this Friday at R&R lingkaran luar butterworth. Join us if you are free.

My guess is your car is above 100k, and yes you do not a major service. Get ready to spend and know the technical aspect of the car so that you won't get conned. If you do not do major preventive maintenance, it may cost you more to repair.

Hi Planta

No it is not typo error. I sent the car to AB for sevice today cost me 2.4k. AB comfirmed the car underused by a lady owner who works in KL and spends weekends in Penang. No tempering of the meter also confirmed. The past records also available in the AB computer.

Thank you for the TT invitation. I am from Bayan Baru, can you pl. let me know the time. By the way how to make the newbie introduction, I scrolled through the website but ......

Regards

Hi Gopaiah

go to BMWClubMalaysia.com Forums > General Forums > Newbies

Hey, great car then, 19k mileage for a 2002.
It would not cost you that much to maintain it then except normal wear and tear till it hit at least 50k or 80k.

The TT starts at 9:30pm.

Guys,

I need some advice... I saw a small cable not plug to one of the socket underneath my driver seat. And also see my Air bag light were on all the time. Is this the cause and would it hurt my ride if I plug it in back. I think it's the Seat Belt tensioner cable. I will plug it in if any senior say ok...

Just changed my Seat belt tensioner on 16th May 2008.

Damage : RM 400 (Inclusive labor charge and resetting computer)

and this morning got smoke come out from the engine bay. Called my mechanic at around 8AM and rush to his workshop. Found that the Valve cover gasket was leaking. Oil dropped to the exhaust pipe and smoke created. Changed the Valve Cover Gasket.

Damage : RM290 (Inclusive Labor)

I need to replace Front Shock Absorbers and Engine Mountings for my E46 318i 2002 as recommended by AB. Can someone recommend a reliable workshop in Penang with reasonable cost. Which brand of shock absorbers recommended? thank you in advance.
