Hi all,Appreciate anybody who has experience in replacing your drive shaft, mine got a lot of free play and making humming noise (together with the worn wheel bearing). I asked bavarian auto and it cost RM2500/piece for brand new. Is it possible to refurbish it or just get used replacement from chop shop? Thank you in advance

Hi zeedo,

We are sharing the same problem here. My UDM previously got this 'clunking' sound from beneath and humming sound above 80 km/h. The car also vibrates when accelerating from 60 - 80. Upon checking, the drive shaft rear coupling got stuck at a certain angle thus contributing to the vibrations. My so-called 'specialist' mechanic recommended to change the coupling together with re-balancing the shaft plus changing a used unit rear differential. Total damage was RM 1750 and I still have this humming / vibrations above 80 and it goes really bad beyond that! :motz:

What I'm trying to say here is try to get as many opinion possible before embarking on the shaft replacement / repairs and not to be 'conned' by our own 'honest & faithful so-called specialist'. :listen:

I'm still searching for solution to my problem and should I found one, I would glad to share it with the rest here. :top:

cheers

Hi bro , did u check the tyres most problem the sound appear to be the tyre not even . the rear driveshaft hardly spoil if rough use . the driveshaft can be service back and change the rubber boot. check at the tyre shop to know further info.

My car still in workshop, will only pick it up this weekend. My option now is to replace it from chop shop....will share my result once it is completed

That's very reasonable, anyway I replaced mine with parts from chop shop....cost RM550/shaft. Yet to test drive my car

Drive shaft problem solved with the replacement, but one surprising thing was my original drive shaft has one side 3 " longer than the other one. From the original service record, there was nothing done by the previous owner on that part. I think rear drive shaft always have equal length unlike FWD cars.

Ride is ok now, no more humming noise and replaced also 2 pairs of rear arm bushes so car feels firmer. Total damage...nearly RM2k
