yup 520 to 528 was a transplant. M52B25 can stroke to 3.0 or 3.2. 3.0 will be pretty much drop in internals. But for 3.2 you need to re-bore cylinder block. (bigger diameter piston)

Thanks for the info. So in this case, stroking a M54B25 to 3.0 will produce more hp? Are there any apparent advantages of getting a M52B25 over the M54?

Forgot where I've heard it from or how far it is true ... that the M52B25 has more potential for mods compared to the M54.

My car always get sulky when i mentioned anything about changing bimmer..now speaking in a softly manner so dia x makan hati..

My car never breakdown (touch wood) because I kept saying will never sell it and keep for life hahaaha

Basically the differences (or advantages if you like), lie in the engine design itself. From the engine cooling system to the combustion system. That you can do a comparison on its own.

As for mods, from what i've learn and read,...whatever you can do to a M54, you can also carry out on a M52. It's all about the $$$ $$$ $$$!!!!

It happened when my friend came and gave me an offer..i declined but it sulked..changed the cam sensor n whispered some sweet words...so far, he never fails to perform his duty..(touch wood also larr)
 
I suppose the M52 has its price advantage since a 1997 model is half the price of a 2003 model which allows spare cash for mods.

I also prefered M54 rather than N52 is because M54 you can get this engine at most of the chop shop selling BMW engine. And N52 is very expensive engine.

As i confident to maintenance m52 and m54 but zero knowledge for N52.
 
But N52 has valvetronic which helps in stomp on acceleration. Driven both E60 M54 530i and E60 N52 530i. The N52 rocketed like there's no tmr. :D

Yes valvetronic can found in N52 and i have shown the video before as well. But for now if got any problem on N52 will cost you alot whereelse M54 cost less...............hahahahhaahahhaahahah

Cost wise that is true. but N52 being a technology breakthru and still remain as main stream engine until today should worth considering. well, a properly maintained BMW engine, be it M52 M54 or N52 should last for a long long time rite? nevertheless, need to watch out for early batch N52 which has lifter sound problem and need regular engine oil refill.

Is true that the engine will last long for well maintain. But now we are talking about second hand car. Well maintain or not for the last owner sure we dont know. Somemore if that is a second hand car then sure you will looking for chop shop spare parts. If that can more than 7 years and dont have or very less chop shop spare parts then you think you dare to buy that second car ? Or you will buy new car for that car ?
 
Not everyone get their parts from chop shop la. Some people (i think the majority) will buy new part as replacement for peace of mind.
