Hey guys, looking to get an e39 for my daily ride. Would like to seek some opinion before I make my decision.1. 02 and above 525i M54 M-Sport2. 02 and above 525i M543. pre 02 523i M52If I do end up with the M-Sport, it is most likely that I maintain it in stock condition. For option 2 and 3 however, it will eventually go through a stroker kit after a year of ownership and will consider a supercharger.Mechanics advise is best to stay stock and not mess with the original system.I on the other hand would like to hear of first hand ownership experience of those who have went for option 2 and 3.Would the M52B25 or M54B25 be more suitable for future engine enhancements such as stroking and SC?Appreciate it !

Bit wrong with your year cut off.

It should be

1. 2000 and above 525i M54 M-Sport
2. 2000 and above 525i M54
3. pre 2000 523i M52TU
4. pre 1998 523i M52

If u plan to SC the car, don't buy m52 as hard to get SC kit for m52.

Another u may consider: http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/forums/showthread.php?41859-WTS-E39-530i-M-Sport-SC

I second this, might as well get bro 535i's already supercharged, tested and reliable 530i..less headache and very powerful :)

I'd also recommend m54 engine since it's one of BMW's most durable and trusted engine (used in e46 and e60 as well)

You can try referring the link below since this subject was brought up previously by our bro IM - "Difference between M52TU & M54 engine":

Good luck with your hunt!

Bro, where u bought your SC kit for the m52? How much ya?

Thanks for the links to cars for sale guys.

I actually would prefer to slowly do it up like a long term project. This way the love and bond for the car grows :)

Hence, will look for good condition stock M52 or M54.

The SC project will not come so soon, I am more likely to add a stroker kit within the next 1-2 years.

Therefore, I am curious on which engine is the best base for future mods.

E.g. M52B20 with 3.2L stroker
M52B25 with 3.2L stroker
etc.

Still unfamiliar with these mods which can increase the displacement. All guidance much appreciated!

His endeavor was more like this....520>528>532>M3cams>SC>manual>"i wonder what's next in the pipeline??" :D

So the 520>528 was an engine transplant?

And the thing that I'm still unclear is how much can you stroke a M52B25? 3.0? 3.2?

How much for the stroker kit for M54 engine? i'm thinking to do for my car

Should be around 5k to 9k, based on recently 2 sets I read for sale. 9k set sold. 5k one I think still available. These are 3.0L stroker kit.

Edit: PM loafer.

"2. M54B30 Stroker kit – Kit consists of the piston, conrods and crankshaft. This was a result of my fickle mindedness as I was unsure of what route I wanted to go before embarking on the project. As with any used items, there is definitely wear and tear and could definitely use new rings. Basically a good kit to plonk into your engine if you’re looking to overhaul anytime soon. Plug and play for M50B25 and M52B28 engines as far as I know. RM5000 for this complete kit."

I also wanted a stroker kit (3.0L) for my M54B25 and was quoted RM12k inclusive of engine overhaul. All parts to be used will be orginal.

I believe that makes swapping in a 3.0L engine more feasible technically and financially and less headache in terms of overall maintenance.

yup 520 to 528 was a transplant. M52B25 can stroke to 3.0 or 3.2. 3.0 will be pretty much drop in internals. But for 3.2 you need to re-bore cylinder block. (bigger diameter piston)

Seems like u did a lot of research. Bila mau masuk?

Swapping in a 3.0L engine is a good idea too provided you can get a good condition half-cut.

Research done aplenty. Tak cukup dough only to materialize project. Plus it's a good opportunity to stroke when you're due for an overhaul. Skali kau tim everything. Engine is silky smooth and no issues whatsoever so don't think it's anytime soon.
