E39 Crankcase Breather

I just read a BMW magazine recommending change of the crankcase breather for M54 engine after 8 years, mainly to reduce engine oil consumption and smoke. anyone has changed this before? does it mean if no engine oil reduction problem there is no need to change even after 8 years?
 
Yes, we discussed this before. One of the member even DIY replaced the part.
 
Thanks, but info quite limited. does it mean if my car no idling problem and engine oil reduction and no smoke, no need to change?
 
Yes, u can say if no white smoke then not need to change.

Since it is not an expensive item (cost RM230 from BA) and i never replace it since i own the car 5+ years, i decided to replaced the new one last year when i replaced the vanos seal and major parts in front axle. If u ask me any different, i would say minimal but phychology is 100% satisfy.

Some say the part is serviceable, some say no, so up to you.
