Hi bros! My mechanic, Raymond called last tuesday and said he has solved my mis-firing problem. So happily I flew in to KL, paid up and collected my car on friday. Tested it and its much better. But guess what, yesterday all the same problems crop up! Spent 2 weeks at workshop & 3.5k and for nothing.
They changed ignition coil, all 6 plugs, camshaft sensor, cleaned the intake manifold, ch:motz:anged fuel filter.

Quite mad but put the car back in shop yesterday. Should change mechani:motz:cs but after spending so much time and money, workshop must give explanation for this.

Pam312 - thanks and will pm you later this week. Flying back to east coast monday morning with a heavy heart.

It happens at idling, engine sounds rough. Especially when accelerating and between 70 to 90 km/h.
Mech rule out O2 sensors, Mechanical problems as compression tests on all 6 cylinders shows all ok.

Any ideas, bro?

i think my car also experience this thing.. shaky while idle, and when turn on the aircond the rpm drops a lil bit befire it gains back to normal idle.. but when turn the ac off, the idle seem a lil bit low than how it supposed to be..

Still feels like ox sensor. How did your mech rule it out. If it happen during idlng and partial throttle, it sounds more like ox sensors.

Raymond has changed a typical parts that cause the engine to vibrate. I believe it happen especially during morning start. There are 4 O2 sensors. 2 Pre Cat and 2 post Cat. Diagnostic should be able to tell condition of the O2 sensors and which position and bank require change. Bear in mind, the sensors has the lifetime. O2 sensors easy to change. I bought from eBay and DIY.

I always tackle the problem using the cheapest and best guest first after diagnostic plugged in. Last will be the toughest and slight expensive fix which is vacuum leak issue as manifold need to be removed to access the hoses and the oil separator/Crankcase Ventilation/CCV. Beside replacing the CCV, best is to changed all the 3 hoses as well to save labour cost in future. all the items changes are consider wear and tear items so don't be despair if it still does not solve the problem for now.

Good luck.

Hi bros, just collected the car today. It's running fine now. Apparently another ignition coil went kaput (no.4 this time) when I collected it last week.
Will test it out by driving to terengganu tomorrow. Wish me luck !!!

Thanks for all your helpful thots and info.

I thought you said Raymond has changed all the coils? Perhaps you did not indicate that they only change certain coil.

Based on BMW guide, should diagnostic indicated coil is the reason, all ignition coils should be change in order to get the stable reading. After the change, use diagnostic tool like DIS GT1 to get reading of all the coils. It should read about the same for all coils. Car like Opel or GM come in one set of 4 coils attached (for 4 cylinder engine) to make sure all the coils changed at the same time. Replacing certain ignition or used ignition coil should be for temporary measure. Some say bad coil can lead to the other good coil to spoil faster as it stress the others. For certain model Audi like A4 that uses Ignition Control Module (ICM), bad coil can damage the ICM. ICM control firing for the packs. BMW especially newer model uses different approach to control the firing of coils.

Thanks zidee. You are spot on on the ignition coils. Mech changed 1 ignition coil initially. When same problem occurs, they changed another coil. Car ok now.
Maybe should consider changing the other coils as well. But quite costly to change all at same time........koyak seluar!!!!!

how much u bought d ignition coil for?
i got mine for 110

Where do you get it for RM110 bro ? I replace all six from Jalan Ipoh workshop for RM155 per coil. So call good deal. Damn !. Someone change at USJ for RM130

Bought from Sturdgard Pj for $110 each, but that was 2 years ago. Maybe a bit more now. Best to change all six at one go. Save the trouble of going to workshop every time for same problem.

sifus, my car feels shaky when cruising not when idling. especially at gear 5, 100-120 kmh. faster than that feels ok.

is it due to misfiring as well? previous diagnosis result shows 2 cylinders got misfiring issues. thank u.

I don't think it has to do with your engine. Go to reputable tyre shop that can do on wheel balancing. I believe it is due to your wheel. Check also whether there is any dent to your rim.

If you are staying is Klang Valley some shops that can do "on wheel balancing" are MPS Sunway, Consistence Distinction Jalan Klang Lama or Shah Alam Tyres Section 15.
