Dear sifusI'm currently comparing between the two cars and have to say they have very little in between. Off course it would be cheaper to go for the older 523i ( by abt 20 - 25K) but i somehow find that its slighly more sluggish compared with the newer 520i with the 2.2 ltr engine. Can this be true? Both car have abt 170 bhp if i'm not mistaken.Which car would you guys recommend? the 523i is a UK imprort while the 520i is a ckd. Thanks. B)

:p :p

AM5,

I will choose 1999 523i if the car manufactured in 1999. have you checked the VIN ?

Why don't you check year 2000 523i or 525i M-Sport version ?

Bro,

A friend of mine is looking for the 525i M-Sport version.
Any leads? :)

if u have extra $$, go for the 2000 525i M-Sport. The 5 series is a heavy machine. U'll need all the horsepower u can get to really enjoy the ride.

Thanks for the input guys.

JYazid, I' curious to know why you favour the 523i over the 520i as there is no diference in power...
I have not checked the VIN, where can i get the VIN from?
525i M sport sounds quite good, how much will that set you back. Pls let me have some details as well if you have any leads.
Thanks

Hi,
my advise is going for the 2.2, because this is the newer engine (M54) and throttle is drive by wire, you will feel better respond from the accelerator.

Cheerss

Go with the 523i, even though both have similar hp, but the the 523i would have higher torque (extra 300cc!!) and thats what really matters for a car that is meant to be used as a daily driver. :)

I saw a 2001 Japan spec 525 M-Sport on sale for RM179,500 in Cheras. Dunno whether it is sold. I know someone who sells them. PM if interested. I can give you the phone number.

watch out for Japan spec cars - they're normally 523s and not 525s. hard to tell unless you run the VIN number check although in Japan 523s were known as 525s, there is quite a difference in response between the 2 cars
