thanks for the info provided........

Hi there all ye german and jap hybrid owners,

please let me know when the next TT rolls around...i am quite interested in knowing more about these conversions...i hv never owned a turbo car before, but have sat in a perdana with 6A12TT manual and also driven a stock GC5 STI. was much more impressed with the pull from the perdana; in fact, i was literally spouting off to my friends how great the torq felt...

so, i am bent on turbo-ing my e34...:)

ishh ishhhh jejet.... i was confused at 1st.... and keep thinking what is jejet =P
hehe jejet is the nickname for 1jz/2jz engines... during TT with enemy clan (RB users) must use secret code, if not secret blown away!

bro,if u've decided to 1jzing it.....go ahead...just do it you wont go wrong.....but do find a reputable workshop that is experienced.....otherwise u'll have an e34 with all round massaging seats.....:D

To all the German/Jap sifu's.... Recently my M50B20 kaput... Can read the rest of the sad story here:
http://www.bmwclubmalaysia.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29046

Am considering between M50B25 swap and also 1JZ. Spoke to my mech which has done plenty of 1J/2J/RB swaps in other vehicles but not an E34.

Got a few questions:
- What type of intercooler do you run and where do you put it? I would like to maintain stock look of the car so a front mount which requires cutting the bumper is not acceptable. There doesn't seem to have enough space on the right front of the engine bay to fit the side mount intercooler. Any feedback?
- The battery has to be moved also so I assume that most have moved it under the rear seat.
- Do you mount the 1JZ ECU in the same place as the M50 ECU or do you move it inside the car?
- What sort of air intake do you have? Does the original 1JZ airbox fit?
- Do you reuse the stock exhaust (M50B20) or has everyone changed to custom built one?

Appreciate the assistance. Need to decide soon as no car to use right now....

Got a few answer for you

tkk>> i'm using stock supra black intercooler which fit nicely into my e34 bumper... anyway the size about VR4

tkk>> yes, your pomen can easily move the battery under the rear seat... by the way, my car is the last batch for e34. so before i done the conversion the battery already under the rear seat

tkk>> YES... just infront the driver side Bonet

tkk>> i'm using ARC and fit nicely also... sorry i do not use the stock airbox

tkk>> you can choose to use the stock exhaust... but for turbo car i think better go for 2.5" - 3".. anyway i'm using 3" and my exhaust behind is ARC + middle box in center to reduce the sound... anyway, the sound still look like Bimmer... hehehe

tkk, thanks for the feedback. Need to check and see whether can find a supra intercooler.

hi seech,
sorry to hear tha your M50B20 is gone, but also congrat joining darkside jejet company:stupid:
most of my answer same as darkside company's chairman--> tkk

my suggestion is the ecu---- try hide inside ur car instead of put at the ori ecu place, then you can level up, or open hole with your bonnet, in order to make the engine cooler as 1jz compression is darn high, this will coz performance drop during hardcore drive.

as for air box, if without changing intercooler piping the ori airbox can fit with slightly modify and actually 1jz or 2jz can live without air filter... it depends on you.

exhaust system, auto go 2.5 to 2.8inch,manual can go for any 3inch with a single hole 3inch backbox, depends on what sound you need lor

as for intercooler, a few 1jz halfcut is already come with similiar supra size cooler, just small mater bro

it would be good, if you dont mind to change the gear stick to 1jz or 2jz instead of ori stick, then you can gain sport, normal mode as well as overdrive funtion without transfer those funtion separately. this is much trouble free...

and at last welcome to the darksideeeeeee company.. BOSS!!!our business is expanding :cheers::cheers::cheers::cheers:

j-e34, thanks for the info. Actually my mechanic was planning to put the sports switch in place of the S,E,M switch. The only function that won't be available is the O/D.

Will see how. Anyone got pics of their conversions? Intercooler, exhaust, etc? Would be nice to take a look.

blackie, scared kena kau kau racun then.... after that will start with bigger turbo, stand alone ECU, etc. etc.... die lah.

bro seech, below are some of my lousy E34 pics attach......for your understanding......hope this helps............

Engine bay, engine size is not much of a difference from previous m20.....
bmw1jzenginebay9-6-0914-1.jpg

Stock standard front end....xcept fog lamp being removed to make way for I/C piping.....or u could do it like safuila's ride......with some additional costs for I/C piping with fog lamp......front end.....i believe....j-e34 ride's is the best....with huge I/C sticking out at the front.....i kinda like that....:D

cool man. looks stock fr the outside. The IC is from a Supra or custom made?

Sorry, got another question. My battery is currently located in the engine bay itself.

2009_08160003.JPG

I suppose during the conversion it will be moved to under the rear seat. My question is this. In cars with the battery under the rear seat, there is usually a 'positive terminal' post in the engine bay in case you need to jump start, etc. Where can I find one of those?

Like this:

E34%20Positive%20Battery%20Location%20Under%20Hood.jpg

Errm....interesting...what if I want to use standard piping, using ori exhaust system, can it be done?...I like the power but I don't like the big ekzos...macam tak kena jee..

seech, intercooler can be of any type new or used.....i'm using one of those china or thai made.......cheap stuff......buy an intercooler with large inlet and outlet diameter.....2" and above.....as for the battery terminal....well u could get an additional + from the back up to the front to hook it up i guess....

anakin,as black mentioned earlier bigger diameter exhaust flows better thus there are some minor increment on performance although everything is stock standard....more restriction...less power......u'll feel that its reluctant to move after 4k rpm.....power is there but slower.....

black, most of the user prefer to use bimmer ori radiator....

i guess for 2++whp bimmer radiator will be sufficient....but if anything goes beyond 300 i'd say it'll be in a flux........heard that a guy whose pushing 330 at the wheels.....is facing this water temp issue.....not to the extent of red lining but its pretty....high....i heard......

as i recalled those days when i was running my force fed m20 on stock radiator,it'll be ok with mix kinda driving.....
but if u are keeping it above 7k rpm all the time......then u'll see the water temp goes up gradually.....

so to those who are planning to go for high power output better get those alu radiator....or use the radiator from the 1/2 cut......i guess it would be better that way......
