no la bro...if a 92/93 e36 can rust, what more a post 1988 e30?? :D too many factors that can contribute to rust...each car could have a different possibility but end result is still the same...RUST RUST RUST to those recommending the m40, it has its own share of problems, most common = worn cam... its a noted failure, even bmw admits it.i 'll try to post my journey (the pics) when i restored my ex-e30....maybe can share share the experience, joy despair and also wallet bursting restoration.

i almost bought this last time...tak cukup duit jer. sigh...power and smooth car. thanks for the ride bro :)

I've had an E30 for 11years. Broke down only 3 times - 1. flat battery 2. no petrol and 3. wheel fell off because my tyre shop didnt tighten my wheels properly after i changed my tyres.....so YES...very reliable but like evilnickwong mentioned above, budget 5k a year, even if nothing goes wrong, spend that money on upgrading and keeping it tip-top.

btw... my power windows/mirrors are3 still working since it was bought new in 1987 ;)

Definitely recommend an E30 as a 1st car. I've had mine since 1991 and reliable. Despite clocking up >500km and >23 years old, she still roadworthy and I plan to do some restoration / touch-up work.

Hi all,

I'm new to the BMW scene. This wont be my 1st car, but my 1st BMW car
The particular car I'm currently looking at is the E30, I believe is the M20 engine with 6 cylinders 2.0 liter engine.

Any particular list of parts I need to change due to wear & tear (and age)?
Appreciate if can list according to "must change" and "have to change eventually but can use 1st".... need to budget la.

Hope to learn more from the sifu sifu here

monster.....

just one advise....if u want the 2.0 model, please avoid the auto. ( unless u dun mind kancil out accelerate you at lights...)

just my dua kupang.

you're seeking advice about a 20 year old car. no two E30's will be the same after such a long period. it's virtually impossible to answer your questions without actually inspecting/driving it.

Jules: 320iA also can takeoff wannn... :)
Mine was very slow and sluggish when i got it. Almost impossible to hit 130kph. But after Ah Foo the Sifu done the tuning, it's livelier and angrier. :D

e30 is certainly the best entry car for beemer newbie...

Kenapa all of a sudden i feel like getting an e30? the whitey e30 manyak cun woo

JFT63, i guess the e30 does have much attraction thus not surprising :) I remember 5 years ago when i really wanted one...look high and low for a good 10 months before i found what i have now :) been enjoying it all the years and still look forward to more exploration with it :)

Tombstones' white e30 is a stunner...and i love those BBS...if only mine have a bigger engine otherwise the M40 is a bit underpower for a 15" 205...

Miz, please dont start injecting the poison...i already stop visiting your car due to the same reason :D LOL....pls share some picts of your other car if you have :) equally poison actually...

bro, you need to complement your M40B18 with another E30 with M20B25.

i don't visit the other car as much as it is in capable hands of two project managers. it's not a full restoration job, just replacing all doors/fenders/trunklid/windscreen rubbers/roof lining, address some minor rust issues, grinding of engine bay, top overhaul of engine and giving it a fresh repaint. body colour sterling grey with bodykit in dolphin grey; rims in hyper silver.

Your E30 w/t M20B25 is still a hoot to drive around even tho it's an auto. Well balanced, nimble and light with smooth power delivery.....very difficult to find in newer cars. However not suitable for high speed adventures tho.
