Okay ...As I guessed from the onset, I am getting very tired of the stock e36 front speaker location. The stock location, deep in the footwells is not helping with the imaging / soundstaging not to mention the almost non existant mid bass notes. This to some extent is caused by the fact that you can't squeeze anything bigger than a 5 inch mid unit into it. Damn !!!Acoustic laws on the flip side will show that for front stage, there is no way that any 5-inch driver could yield realistic midbass down to 80Hz, at which point the sub takes over. That's when you end up feeling that your sub/s are working overtime to really project the upfront bass effect. Push your front compies to hard ... distortion and cone break-up starts coming in.So, what do you guys suggest I do ? I showed some of the pictures that Affan had put up earlier on these to Jerry and a few shops but most of them are not sure if they can replicated. I was sent these pics by a good pal of mine - these are premium aftermarket panels done by an Italian firm called PM Modifiche. The pics are from an E39 but look at the quality of the material used and the workmanship ! Drool baby !!!

The same enclosure with the covers up. Nice .... if only I knew where I can get these babies.

Van,

The E39 has the space at that location on the door trim to create a nice custom speaker mount. There are 2 cubby holes and a clean cut can be made on the forward one without affecting the second cubby hole. The trim at that location is also thick enough such that with a little spacer, a large magnet will clear the various mechanisms inside. My installer has done a job like this on another car, from some of the pics he's got.

But frankly any installer worth their salt should be able to do one to fit a single 5.25" or even a 6.5. The challenge is to create the sound enclosure with sugfficient space behind the speaker. I have seen one installation here on an E36 the 6.5's protrudes out about 1.5-2" to clear the window.

I'll see if I got the pics.

*cough* *cough*

For the record, I had 6.5" on my E36 318 door last time. Had to cut a little bit of the door panel to make sure the magnet can fit in. Construction wise: so-so. It was made with MDF. To get the best finishing, fiberglass is the way to go.

The poison seeping in deep in you Van. hahahah

Looks like it, Bro. Haaaa chooo !!! See what I mean ???

Got my eyes set on a nice, lovely and cool Swedish missy ... Her name is Urs ... DLS UR6S. Heard her sing the other day and her voice is still ringing in my head, ears and pretty much everywhere. Here's a picture of her .. :dunno:

Somehow, the stock location and the thought of having a 5.25 inch drive unit stuck there is giving me sleepless nites. Keeping dreaming of a nice pair of 6 inch drive units in the door pods. Aiyoh !!! Somebody please stop me before I go and blow a hole in my wallet again !!! :beaten:

And yup, my shields are up already... so no *koff* from me. :D

Affan,

Seen em both in your last thread. Trouble is, the 1st pic is no different from the stock location ... only thing is it's able to accomodate a bigger drive unit. The 2nd one is yummy but I don't need sumthing so elaborate. I am only planning to put a single 6 inch mid unit in the door la ...

Have a look at this one ... also from you. This one blends in nicely with the stock door trim .... mite even cost a lot less than the 2nd picture. Do you guys know anyone who can get it fabricated maybe ?

ini thailand mari brother van...

Iwashmania, if you are reading this, can you help us source the above and how it is made? :D

That's I am bugging him to accept me as his Padawan learner !!! He is so humble at times !!! BTW, I threw this to Jerry and Kenny - Soundquest. They are cracking their heads on this now ... I told them that cost must be realistic !!!

Hartgie,

You've just walked into the lion's den !! Summore can hear you saying "BITE ME, BABY" !!! Okay let me see what you're asking for here -

Fronts - you mau 3 way set up ka ? A pair of tweets, a pair of 4.5 inch mids and a pair of 6/7 inch mid basses wud be ideal. You have the right amp for the duty, I assume ? Mind you bro, 3 ways are not easy to set up and tune BUT get it rite and it will blow most 2 way components out of the water.

Sub - bandpass enclosure is okay. How many subs are there ? 10 or 12 inch units ?

Where to fix them ... tough one this ..... There are a few good shops really that you could walk into, Technichi, Klasse ( Affan goes there ), ACP at SS2 and also Soundquest. BTW, berapa hang punya budget for this makeover ?
