Becker, I would touch it. Had a bad experince with it on a C200.
If I'm going to do a full electronically driven system, I go the whole hog with an Eclispe by Fujitsu with their DTA - mou tak teng - non comes close. I have tested one out and it is just superb from anywhere in the cabin. The guy also put in active noise supression. He listens to a lot of classical.
But if I were to go for a mix and match, I would always go for a Nakamichi HU. Speakers would always be DLS, MB, or ADS.
It all boils down to the following 4 things:
1. System design and construction - This is where the quality of the
components becomes one of the factors.
2. System tuning - This can make a "cheap" system sound like a
million $$ (within limitations).
3. Listener preference - The most inportant factor. What is OK for me
might not be or may too good for others. I will not junk an SPL or
a road thumper if thats your cup of tea.
4. Quality of recording - Listen to an audiophile quality CD.
I have listened to local made speakers when you start equalizing the price (a RM599 would have to play with a RM1200 foreign), this is when I can feel the differnce.
But all-in-all, the car is the most hostile environment for sound quality. If I going to spend that much again, I am going to put the money in my home system. I am not satisfied with my current system but I am not going to put anymore into it. I have spent way too much to try and get it as close as the elusive home system. I have decided that MP3's are good enough.
Hey, have to earn my keeps. So taking an occassional peek into the forum.
