Car doesnt move when gear set to R

Salam and hai to all...my car is e46 320 2.0 model. this morning when i wanted to reverse my car, when i selected the gear to R, it didnt move. however when I set it to D, the car moves normally. Has anyone encountered this problem before? if there's already a thread about this, please provide me the link. Thanx

I have the same problem...I have a E46 325i.Spoke to some sifus here, and they are suggesting it could be the gear switching problem.
Have you had yours checked?

try changing the gear positioner switch located beside the GB.

How much labour cost to change gear positioner switch? After change the gear positioner switch whether is effective? Is there any parts to change other than gear positioner switch?

reverse solenoid

Hi Bro.... Im driving a e46 318i 2.0 model 2003.... Had the same problem like yours .... cant reverse when engage to R... happen to me on 3 occasion , but after driving long distance very hard.... the reverse gear came back..... My mechanic said is due to the reverse solenoid failure... its rubber seals has worn out.... so i decided to get it change.... now the car in perfect condition... reverse is even smoother......I changed the gear box oil , filter , gasket and reverse solenoid all cost me rm 850.... the solenoid itself cost about rm 280....
