hi,i`m buying e30 next week. it is 2 door model,323i auto year 83.price is around 14k,is it worth?already viewed the car,looks good to me. service records is unknown since i got the car from used car dealer. what do i need to check before i buy the car? (p/s:already pay booking fee)any info about this model? what type of engine? gearbox? comes with lsd or not? what is the cost if i want to convert to manual?the speed meter is not working but rpm is ok,what is the problem?
 
check for rust especially at firewall. if there's substantial rust AND your tailpipes are puffing white smoke, you may have paid a tad too much.. considering all the repairs you need to make. as for your other questions, i'd suggest you approach the resident gurus during club meets.
 
however, first i suggest you get on wikipedia, and search for BMW E30.
 
how to check the firewall? have to dismantle the dashboard ar?
already test drive the car n now really in love with it.
btw,i`m from kuantan,any sifu around here?
 
i dunno anyone in kuantan. i am however glad you're in love and hope you consummate it soon.. wouldn't want to see you heading for a heartbreak :wink:
 
For me.. it is the rust condition need to be take consideration, as far as my concern , those late model accumulate rust especially under the big carpet..:wink:, so for me If you can open the carpet or bring the car to the workshop and put it on the ramp for better view :rolleyes:
 
There will be rust for a 1983 e30. Ask a competent bodyshop guy to check for you.

Look under the battery for the firewall rust issue.also peek into the air vents just in front of the wipers. then open the boot to have a look in the lowest areas i.e behind the wheel arches and in the spare wheel well. Drive the car and check the brakes. accelerate hard (not too hard) and check for clunking noises from the back end, prop shaft universals normally wear out. Lots of problems but nothign that cannot be fixed. The E30 and it's rival the 190E are one of the last over engineered cars. my advice is go to buy a original manual instead going for conversion ....

at 14k ...u can find some nice E30 320 or 318 manual at www.mudah.my .......

pls do some survey b4 commit it .....

my advice is try to get year 90 M40B18 sedan.... free of dust issue with newer engine and potential upgrade to M42B18 or M44B19 twin cam .....

good choice for E30 as ur entry car ....

thanx for your advise bro,but i`m not interested with sedan. the car i`m buying also at mudah.com.my. the green one with registration plate bbw 8778. anyone know the history of the car plz share
