Dear Sifu's,Last Saturday I had replaced all the washers for my steering rack as it was leaking. The cost was RM685 at Naidu's, Jalan Gasing. The steering felt a bit more heavy after that. Naidu said that it is normal due to the new washers. I do not know the difference as I bought this car second hand and have no first hand knowledge on how it should feel.Did any of you face similar experience and is it normal or is it a bad fix? Thanks very much.

BMW Steering is always Heavier... thats cause its a fast (faster than normal sedan la) and its heavy... if ur driving the national/Jap car before its not gonna be the same feeling :)

I love the BMW steering as it is proportion to the car ur driving... Sturdy yet smooth :p

Thanks bro...but I felt the difference only after the change...so should be normal I guess?

Dear Sifu's,

Had gone to M1 to check if this is normal and they said it is still leaking. They showed me the leak and it is where the metal tube connects to the rack.

Went back to Naidu and I told him about the leak. Without checking he asked me if it was at the metal tube where it connects to the rack and I said yes.

Going this Saturday to have it changed.

Is it normal for the leak in between the metal tube and the rack?

Thanks very much.

I believe the leak is from the high pressure power steering hoses (2 hoses). Leak usually occurs at the metal connector of the hose. These 2 high pressure hoses are expensive and can be repaired. Ask Naidu to send the hoses to an engineering workshop to replace the metal connector.

Bro herbert, thanks very much for your reply. Apologies but how long do u reckon the repair will take if he needs to send to engineering workshop? Any contacts where I can go directly?

Thanks in advance.

Taking out the hoses is relative simple and fast..about 15 minutes. Guess if Naidu send the hoses for repair, turn around time should be 2 to 3 hours. Engineering workshop do not deal with car owners as they do not have the facilities to dismantle and re-install the hoses.

Thanks very much Herbert. I will meet Naidu tomorrow and ask him if he can send the hoses for repairing.

Dear Sifu's,

Apologies but had gone back to Naidu and he mentioned that the power steering pump is leaking and seals cannot be changes, nothing wrong with the hose.

Was told to change the pump for app RM1,500. Was not too happy.

Does the pump actually leak or just kaput?

Thanks very much.

Go to Bomin Auto (03) 6251 3613 at Jalan Ipoh and buy the power steering pump. They have their own workshop just next door. I replaced my e39 power steering pump at Bomin for RM 800.
