Dear forummers,A thought to share. Brought my car (e46 325) to BM world to get my steering column replaced for the klok klok sound (over small potholes @ low speeds) for ~900. Good job done within 2 hours.:) Got a comment on the handling of the steering that it is 'too light'. Lighter than the usual e46s that the mechanic has driven. He proposed a steering rack overhaul costing ~700 ie taking it apart and 'cleaning' or replacing parts as necessary. The handling as mentioned is not as sharp or sedap.Has anyone done an overhaul on the steering rack before? Would like to seek your comments or experience on this matter.Cheers!

Sounds slightly dodgy to me. Best to get a second and third opinion before parting with your hard-earned moolah.

Usually when steerings fail, they become heavier...

check with the previous owner if he ever changed the steering...u cud have the 330i ones circa 2000-01 which is over boosted, hence the lighter feel

just a thought, cud be other things

Steering

Thanks for the advice guys.
BTW Shaifulo... nice quote on Maxis shares...

I also agree with absidian, usually when steerings fail, they become heavier and not smooth...

m-sport steering on 17' rim

hey bro,

I have my m-sport 3 spoke steering wheel running with 17' sport rims. However, i have this feeling when running on low speed or slow driving, the steering wheel feel heavier but on high speed the steering wheel is lighter to turn. May I know is this suppose to be like that?!! Please advice.

Thanks!
