Hi , I've booked 320d performance edition pre-reg for 230k..but now with the news of 320d coming with i-drive made me confused whether to pay extra 30k for the new 2011 model..appreciate your feedback and views on this...TQ :)

For extra 30k, you get:

-2011 new car
-first name on reg card
-idrive, DVD, gps etc
-more horse power and torque

Forget the pre reg!!

Get the iDrive 320d, bro-its not too late for you, it is too late for us.

for me i think iDrive is a nice to have thing.. don't decide solely by this option.. i could live without iDrive

Late 2010 cars will also have the uprated engines hence the last point isn't valid. First name on the registration card is a personal preference.

Is the iDrive and a new 2011 car worth 30k? IMO yes because you can still negotiate some discounts on top of that eg. fleet discounts which is anything between 2-8%.

Gameover, how do I get this fleet discounts..just ask from salesman?..btw what are other offers that can normally be negotiated when buying new BMW cars...

bee2, if you belong to a big corporate body, maybe there are discounts already in place between BMW and your company. Ask your HR department. Quill said because this is a new 320d, there is no pre-reg option for now-usually in December, they start doing the pre-reg 6% discounts to get rid of the current year cars.
If you don't want the iDrive but still want a brand new 320d, there are still many performance-kitted 320d units available and you could probably get a massive discount-I think at least 6% off the list price. The performance editions have the side air vents and their rears and fronts look meaner.

I believe it's 8% Petronas and 5% Maybank or along those lines. Most other multinational companies eg. GSK, HP etc will have fleet discounts as well.

This fleet discount stuff, it depends where you are in the organization. Should you just a kuli overthere, you will be getting only get about 2% and goes up to 8% for GM level (not so sure the latest figure). The most attractive discount is always pre-reg plus festival offer on interest rate.

First name on the reg card??? I just spend $700 to tender a double digit number and pay another $1200 to interchange it to the runner and my log cards stated me as the first owner. The only tell tale sign is that it has the old reg number on the side but I'm sure I can blindside the eventual buyer saying that I bought the number then fung shui master said I had to change the number. I'm sure almost anyone would be gullible and believe it without second guessing. !!

If you wait another 6 months you;ll probably get 30 k discount.

Hence wait!!!

The PE version engine has higher torque and much more HP. So its gadgets vs torque; your call. Have a PE version; honelty no regreats; torque is very addicitive. Like they say it all boils down to budget; HP; gadgets. Eitherway both are excellent choice!!

Pre reg PE if got limited budget, 25 K of different. just got mine end of last year, addictive la the torque.

Get the iDrive version now and enjoy. if you have to wait for the pre-reg ones end of the year, the value also drops in a few weeks negating the discount they just gave you.
If budget is a problem, best don't buy a new car(whatever edition) and save the family from heart ache-put aside kids education savings and your and your wife's retirement allocation always comes first.

If I shop for used pre-own 320d, I would pick the one with iDrive despite the small premium for an iDrive edition. If I buy brand new, I would opt for non iDrive because I can easily find better use for the balance RM30k which doesn't make the car go any faster... for example 10% down payment for a RM300k house.. :4:

The RM30k you spend today, when it comes to selling, it almost recover RM5k for u.. RM25k burnt!

If one needs a 30K discount to be able to just 'ngam-ngam' afford to buy a 320d, of course please do so and don't break the family bank by getting the iDrive version. Already too many bankruptcy cases in Malaysia.

We've covered the additional torque in the earlier forum. It can be done within a reasonable budget and keep the warranty. Alternatively you can use the bluefin for a fraction of the cost and have a higher torque than the PE and be even more satisfied than you'll ever be or just get the 335i and be fully contented without qualms

Thanks guys for the views and feedback..I've decided to stick to my pre-reg booking..hope I won't regret it later :)

good choice bee2, no need to think so much la bro! if you can afford (no need to break the piggy bank) just go for it. the more you think the more headache you will get. my 2 cents

I think you are making a mistake, bee2. The reason why your pre-reg is cheaper is beause it has already dropped in value (like all our320d cars too) the moment the 320d with iDrive came out. Even when you sell it years later, its worth much lesser than the iDrive one.
Please kindly share with us the reasons why u want to go for the prereg without the iDrive....
