Newbie question: does the ASC ot ASC-T work in these conditions??

Rdgs

Kenny
Don't bet your life on it esp in ASC+T. You may have better chance with DSC. In any event, these only remain active when your foot is on the throttle, the system intervenes on occasions you're caught by surprised i.e. wet patches etc. If you're driving at ridiculous speed and lose control, the tendency is for the driver to lift off the accelerator and slam the brakes. There's no more ASC+T in this instance, just ABS and lotsa of screeeching.

I have a question on this DSC/DTC button on my car. I know it is suppose to provide stability when the car starts to loose grip. On start up, is the DTC automatically on? I notice that if I were to press the DSC button the DTC word appears on the screen indicating that it is turned on, right? Someone also told me that the DSC is alays off whenever the car is started but if you push the car hard and it starts to loose grip, the DSC/DTC automatically comes on. Is that true??

Well, I am not sure about all these ASC, DSC, DTS and Dolby Surround System :D :D But, when you are driving in the wet and you hit a puddle of water that is big enough to cause aqua planning, no traction control system will be able to overcome the law of physics.

JohnChen, I think the system is always on the moment the engine is started (by default). Of course I believe there is an option to switch it off if you decide to have a little fun. :D

Issit the same for newer models that the DSC light on dash is "on" when the system has been turned "off"?

the best answer you can get is to enrol urself in AB Driver trainning course.when you are there...ask the instructors. They will know how to explain to you. B)

B) BMW is not invisisble you know...

More like "low performance car with even low performance driver". Imagine its an even more powerful car!

a 17 yr old at the wheel of a Beemer is always going to be a risk.

I remember when I sarted driving regularly ( at 26, mind you). After 2 months, I though I knew it all.

It only takes a wet path and slight downhill gradient for me to discover that my kancil was not a go-kart. I stopped like 6 inches from the car in front.

After that I remember to firstly understand the car you are driving and secondly, make allowances.

or I can teach you to.... ehem... come this 24th to Shah Alam Stadium la...

heheh and the car original colour was supposed to be pearl white but look at that....UDM gone for nothin...go back home sure kena sebat kau kau..heheheh joking only

The DSC comes on by default everytime the car is started. If you depress and release the DSC switch (like one ordinarily would when pressing switches), DTC is activated. DTC raises the DSC activation threshold. If you depress AND hold the DSC button, DSC and DTC would be off. In other words, all stability and traction controls would be deactivated.

ASC+T is rather limited in terms of usefulness compared to DSC. My pre-facelift E46 325i still oversteers with ASC+T on.

Yes, having tried both ASC+T (on my pre-facelift 325i) and DSC on my friend's post-facelift 325i, the latter is far superior and pro-active!

Guys,

When one BREAKS the Laws of Physics, no technology can save you!. Unless we possess the StarTrek Instant teleport technology!.

DSC, ASC and all those things cannot save a car or driver when there is too much speed at the wrong angle and it just spins out.

Recently, a SA of a Porsche dealer was killed (Manila), when he downshifted a GT2 into a corner!. With a concrete wall at the turn, those turbos got into massive boost and the moment the guy hits the gas, its history. Met the concrete wall with so much forcce, no airbag/seatbelt can save him. Neck broken!!!.

Yes, terrible. Powerful cars are dangerous!.

Also, BMW bursting into flames is a reality!. Leaking fuel lines in contact with hot engine surfaces can ignite and cause very serous engine fires!. So, do yourself a favour, Buy a smalll fire extinguisher and mount it under the driver seat!. Use quick release mount or velcro to secure it. Make sure you can reach for it if you need to. You don't want your prized possesion to burn right before your eyes!.

jus saw this thread....

first hand knowledge of the accident is that this chap was driving the E46 318i...totalled it, survived when he was thrown out, and here comes the kicker....his mum then gets him the E46 325.... Where can i apply to be adopted by them??????

man the machine is in a really bad condition... thank god nothin much happened to the driver...

anyway, lost a e46 318 and then got another e46 325... mmm lebih right... lucky guy... but will not know the value of the machine...
