ENJOY GUYS !!! Some stuff I came across BMW Concept CS revealed at Shanghai Motor Show
conceptcsgh2.jpg
This is what BMW had promised for us at the Shanghai Motor Show. Before this, people were saying it was going to be the successor to the special Z8 supercar called the Z9, but apparently not so. Instead, BMW shows us that it too can play at the whole coupe-roofline 4-door GT sedan just like the others. What others? Why, the Mercedes CLS, Porsche Panamera, the Maserati Quattroporte and the Aston Martin Rapide of course. It is called the BMW Concept CS, not to be confused with the Concept CS1 shown quite some time ago, which was a completely different animal altogether. Chris Bangle applies his classic flame surfacing design cues once again, creating a lovely play of shadows on what seems like a normal curved body panels. The classic kidney grille nose design carries a very wide nose look found on the Z4 rather than the more conventionally sized one on the 6-series, making this look like the result of the 7-series and the Z4 mating together. Just so you know, there’s currently a conflict of opinion on what this will be called - some say an 8-series, and some say the 6-series facelift will come in configurations, the classic 2-door and a new 4-door coupe. I’d say the prior is more likely, the number 8 is always a hit with the Chinese businessmen anyway At 5.1 meters long, it is slightly shorter than the BMW 7-Series Long Wheelbase’s 5.17 meters length, and is definitely longer than the normal wheelbase 7-Series. The interior seats four people with four individual sports seats, with the driver enjoying a driver-oriented cockpit. Launching soon It's all aboard at BMW, as the firm puts the finishing touches to a new people carrier project. The six-seater family machine will be based on the newly launched X3 off-roader, and will pitch the firm into all-new sales territory.

It's being developed in response to the growth in popularity of the mini-MPV market.Company insiders are keen to point out that while the car will go head-to-head with popular mini-MPVs such as the Renault Scenic, Mercedes, Vauxhall Zafira and the much sought after japanese models, it will also make the most of the X3's highly developed platform to deliver impressive handling, as well as secure all-wheel-drive traction. What's more, it's instantly recognisable as a BMW, thanks to the influence of controversial head of design Chris Bangle.

Codenamed RFK-1 - which stands for Raum Funktionales Konzept or functional space concept - the newcomer will offer a luxurious but versatile interior according to our sources. Initially, the model will have a choice of 3.0-litre six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. However, once the car is established, smaller-capacity four and six-cylinder units from the current 3-Series line-up are likely to join the range. Buyers can expect a debut in 2007. The maker's MPV ambitions don't end there. Watch out for more.

I can't wait for the new 8-series! Closer to Earth for me would be the new 5-series. Both of these to be unveiled in 2010! Just 3 years from now!

I'm liking the revised front end look of the coupe, looking more like a BMW. I hope this will be prevailing trend.

I think we're gonna see more of that neater and curvy design instead of sharp-edged stuff judging from the facelifted E65.

The CS..does look like a Dodge Viper with 2 broken front teeth?

All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth...:p

The New 5, rumored to launch in 2009

Is this it JPB ?

After half a decade of flame surfaces, cat's-eye headlamps, and wild cutlines, BMW design is pulling back from extreme frivolities for the next 5-series, due in 2009.

Picture shows toned-down creases and edges, less-busy details, and a more elegant overall appearance. A longer wheelbase will boost rear seat room, while a wider track and a slightly lower ride height give the car a more ground-hugging stance. Inside, there's a new instrument panel, an optional head-up display, and a center console angled toward the driver.

The drivetrain goes high-tech with brake-energy regeneration teaming with adaptive alternator control, a start-stop system with an upshift indicator for manual transmissions, plus biofuel- and synfuel-capable engines.

The classic six-speed manual gearbox is joined by a taditional, torque-converter automatic that shifts 50 percent quicker and also can skip gears.

BMW's unloved SMG sequential manual found in today's M5 bites the dust, but two new auto/manual hybrids are planned. One is a faster-shifting evolution of the current SMG. The other is a dual-clutch automatic.

The engine lineup should include a 3.0-liter six with 238 hp; a direct-injection 3.0-liter six with 272 hp (530i/xi); a twin-turbo, direct-injection 3.0-liter six with 306 hp (535i/xi); a 4.8-liter V-8 with 367 hp (540i); a twin-turbo, direct-injection 4.4-liter V-8 with 408 hp (550i/xi); plus an array of diesels that use urea injection to cut emissions.

As for the M5, it will have an even more potent, 550-hp, 5.5-liter V-10, and it definitely will get the twin-clutch automatic. It bows in late 2010.

More exotic body materials help make the standard car a bit lighter than its predecessor--but there are plenty of new optional add-ons to cancel out the weight savings. Among them are active rear-suspension kinematics, xDrive all-wheel drive with active torque split, stability-enhancing active yaw control, and the next-generation electronic damper control system.

For all the technology, the styling may take center stage. But will the restrained look prove too mainstream for a carmaker that has, under Chris Bangle, received a lot of flak--and a lot of praise--for its extroverted styling?

I hope NOT Sith! I don't think we'll know how the new 5 looks like until actual spy picts are revealed say, mid-2008. Judging by how well the E60 is doing now all over the world, I expect it to look much better to protect its turf. The next facelift to be unveiled is for the E90 sometime next year. Let's see what changes emanate. This should provide some insight on future BMW design themes.

My sentiments exactly, the front doesnt seem to be too bad looking, but the rear just makes you feel like you're next to a Hyundai... Well I guess the dynamics will still remain trully BMW...

This is how the new BMW MPV looks like. Codenamed the F3 is base on the current E90 platform. Engine variants include the 4 cylinder version as well as the 3.0 twin turbo. This MPV is supposed to compete head on with the Merc B Class. The big brother of the F3, codenamed the F5 will be based on E60 platform which is going to be wider, longer and taller. Also will be making its debut in 2009.

i'm actually more interested in Efficient Dynamics.. would be very interesting to see how well all the new enviromentally friendly gizmos interact with the more sporty nature of BMW's drivetrain.

regenerative braking,intelli-alternators,better friction management,more efficient direct injection technology,start-stop engine management etc..i mean,WOW!!!

tho i notice the turbocharger is coming back into BMW's fold, especially for petrol engines.i'd love to see it's application on smaller engines especially in many markets where taxes are based on the car's engine size(like ours).maybe instead of having a 4.0-5.0 liter performance variant slotting under the //M range,we can have 2.5-3.0 liter engined variants with a twin-turbo setup pumping out similar power outputs to say 4.0 liter machines..

what is interesting to note is,BMW's //M div is contemplating a twin-turbo setup for the next M5 which will be a 5.5 with approx 550bhp.the interesting part would be the use of turbos to actually help in the future compliance of ever increasingly stringent enviromental legislations worldwide.who would've thought?? ..and all the better i say.
