With all the wires and socket I'll sure burn the car if I DIY. Your DIY only cost 60 cents coins on your centre console haha.

The water leak at door card is usual problem for E46 & E39. For added secure you may put round gum normally use by accessories shop. And for the door card you may put clear silicone to hardened it.

Ass up for a good DIY! hehehe

I wired it up exactly like the BMW WDS wiring diagram. No shortcuts, no splicing anywhere. Everything is done properly with the correct gauge wires and proper connectors. Any wire that needs to be connected are soldered and covered up with heatshrink tubes.

I did add 'Amazing Goop' to my doorcard to strengthen it, now the weakened parts are strong again!

The final missing pieces of my side blinds installation is here. Hoping to finish the installation tomorrow, then off to Batu Pahat for the weekend!

Yess, joned is back again in BP......hehe

Follow the progression of this DIY, and keen to see the final result, especially the side blind cause my car doesn't come with it.
I'm very optimistic the result would be absolutely perfect. Don't forget to update the final result bro.. :top:
And thanks for the useful DIY of "fix Vapor barrier" steps, cause my car having the same problem, and I'll make sure to follow your step to fix it!

No probs bro, will update later when I'm done with the side blinds.

For your vapor barrier fix, look on the internet on steps of how to remove your doorcards as I'm not sure the steps and screw locations are the same.

Finally now I have the rear electric blind and the side blinds....completed just now.

Will update the DIY writeup after I come back from Batu Pahat later...

P/S: Bro Vixx..no need lah for that item. Side blind + doorcard sudah pasang...malas mau bukak balik.

Glad to see the final results! Great job you've done bro! Thumbs up!! :top:

will see the part post you mod and see it is still usable. what i need is the bottom part of the door card as mine has becoming soggie the area why the door card lite is attached.

Bro Gerald 5,

I'm already done with the sideblind install, do you still want the all black doorcard? I did it carefully, still useable if you want.

I would like to look at the rear right door card condition if that is fine with you

You can have both side, I have no use for them now. Keep the other side as spare. Join our E39 drive to Genting Sempah this Saturday and I'll pass them to you?

DIY: Retrofit Side Blinds

Okay folks, as some of you know I retrofitted the side blinds recently. I've bought an all black doorcards set with the side blinds, and my existing doorcards are grey with light silver grey nappa leathers. So after researching on the net and asking several people who have done it, its obvious that I needed to merge the two doorcards together. Basically I needed the top trims of the donor doorcards and associated brackets etc and transfer it to my existing doorcard. I don't find this retrofit to be too hard, but it does take a bit of time to get completed.

Here goes the steps:

6846884955_d74d0db068_b.jpg

My big parcel came from UK. Due to size and weight, have to ship via sea and took a while to get here.

6846885011_3190226ee7_b.jpg

No wonder its big and heavy, the seller over wrapped the items. There were lots and lots of newspaper, boxes and other stuff to fill the box.

6846885191_47e197f5e3_b.jpg

Everything unpacked. Unfortunately the seller forgot to include some trims, brackets and hooks. After I complained to him, he did found the trims and posted it to me, the rest of the brackets and hooks I bought myself from an online seller quite cheap since its just small items. For some reason the seller also included the exterior shadowline trim which I dont need since i already have it on my car.

First thing is to remove the blind itself. Easy, 3 screws and pull it out.

6846885077_0a7f484afd_b.jpg

6846885123_fcb4d339d0_b.jpg

Then you will need to remove these 4 clips, 3 were plastic and one in the end is a metal clip. Two were glued on, and two were riveted.

6846885427_66231a9a5a_b.jpg

You will need to peel off the top foam/plastic part out from the wood backing. Its glued on with quite a strong adhesive. I used a pry tool to do it, and managed to separate the pieces without destroying any of its parts.

6846885517_7745cd64e4_b.jpg

The top trim and the brackets separated from the donor doorcard.

6846885585_fd84b25a94_b.jpg

This bit is different from the normal doorcard without the side blinds. Thats why you need to rip this part off the donor doorcard. I was quite lucky, as the side blinds are rare enough, and I found one with the black Shadowline interior trims in really good condition. Note that some of these doorcards come in chrome trims.

6846885651_da003db7f7_b.jpg

Then you will need to peel off the top trim of your existing doorcard too.

6846885699_2a846d1809_b.jpg

Compare the donor and recipient doorcards, and draw a line of where would you need to cut it.

6846885743_aa3bc7d816_b.jpg

I used a Dremel tool with saw bit to do the cutting of the doorcard wood backing and it works well and quick.

6846885819_223aea89bb_b.jpg

Doorcard wood backing cut as required.

6846885891_cfe1b5ae8b_b.jpg

6846885969_9bd2420c1b_b.jpg

Then you will need to drill 7 holes on each doorcard for the screw and rivets to come through. Again compare it with the donor doorcard to get the exact locations.

6847093709_926942459e_b.jpg

6765081961_e95c4be332_b.jpg

Glue the new top trim to your existing doorcards. I used 'Amazing Goop' automotive grade adhesive that I found in the local hardware shop, I guess you can use any strong adhesive that will stick wood to plastic/foam material.

6846886097_caf15aa4ca_b.jpg

6846886037_fe43770d1c_b.jpg

Rivet the two brackets to the wood backing.

6846886163_b6f477010b_b.jpg

The other two brackets I glued back on using the 'Amazing Goop' above.

6847143385_63a15c2692_b.jpg

Mount the new side blinds onto the doorcards using 3 screws and the 4 brackets just now.

6846886375_2ba691d61e_b.jpg

Tested the doorcard with the rest of the trims. Everything seems to go where it should.

6846886761_175c1a71c0_b.jpg

Now do the other side

6846886565_376669a62c_b.jpg

Now these were the hooks and brackets that were not included by the seller and I had to buy them separately.

6846886609_e1e53febce_b.jpg

6846886689_c430e5f769_b.jpg

The hooks mounted on the window trim.

6846887043_2c1f561ffc_b.jpg

The new window trim with the hooks installed in the car. The remove the old one, there is one plastic plug towards the back of the trim and the rest just pulls out.

6846887117_06f22516c7_b.jpg

Mount the doorcards in.

6846887313_ce57b24c9f_b.jpg

6846887227_7f851898cf_b.jpg

Screw in the brackets for the small quarter blind, and the blind will just clip in.

6846887369_0956344e8f_b.jpg

Now everything is installed nicely =)

As you can from the last photo I have two kids normally seated in the back. Together with my newly installed rear electric blind they would be nicely seated in the shade now. Result!
