No update for a while...busy with work.

Anyway during the heavy rain yesterday, went through some deep waters, upon arriving home my exhaust was making some weird noise. Sounds like a leak. I thought 'aaaahhh koyak this month' and today morning went to Albert exhaust specialist in Kepong, jacked the car up and check the exhaust system.

Fuuhhhhh so lega to discover there's no leak to weld/replace, only the gaskets in between the exhaust part under the driver seat was degraded and leaked. All the bolts and nuts have corroded, upon trying to open them all of them break. Have to burn a bit and knocked it out. Replaced new gaskets and all is good. RM70 fix.

Before that went to a mechanic, was advised to change some hoses, thermostat, valve cover seal, oil filter casing gasket. Other than that the engine is fine. Asked him to quote me how much to change the Vanos seal (seal already bought in the GB) but was advised not to touch the Vanos if theres no problem with it. Perhaps do that someplace else then.

Also need to replace the all brake parts when the wallet allows.

The mechanic most probably does not know nor has any experience in vanos seals replacement. Better go to a workshop that has done vanos seals replacement as special tools required for cam shalf locking/adjustments.

He said he has done it before, just advising me that my engine still OK and dont need the replacement. His opinion la, but I'm gonna do it anyway since need to replace the valve cover seal and oil filter housing seal and other stuff, and also have bought the vanos seals. Cannot use the vanos seal rubber to bungkus nasi lemak anyway. Just do it one go.

Car went in the workshop today, found out few other issues as well. Now changing the oil filter housing gasket, thermostat housing, new radiator (old one started leaking) fan belt tensioner, idle valve bearing, and change new oil and filter. Was told to do the vanos gasket as well but I told him thats for another day since Im doing the Vanos seal as well. Still havent got the final bill yet but If bought most item myself from Bomin Auto.

What's the damage? Compare to mine:

Bought from Bomin Auto:

1) Radiator (german brand he says, no brand on the radiator) RM600
2) Thermostat RM150
3) Idler bearing RM75
4) Fan Belt Tensioner RM130

Item bought by workshop (he admitted he marks up these prices):

1) Oil Filter Housing Gasket RM20
2) Oil Filter RM40 (I knowwww!!)
3) Castrol Magnatec 10W40 RM110 each x2 = RM220

Labour

1) Fit new radiator RM80
2) Replace oil filter housing gasket RM100
3) Replace thermostat RM50
4) Replace fan belt bearing + idler bearing RM50
5) I think he forgot to charge for doing the oil change so the filter price is ok for me.

Total damage RM1515

Bro, the labor charge for the oil filter housing gasket is RM100? Even expensive than the gasket itself? Is it so hard to change it?
