Just replaced my front wheel bearing today at Bomin Auto. Installation took about 1 hour and price is as promised. Now no more noise coming from the front. Drove back to the office with radio turned off to appreciate the quietness of the cabin.

The guy at the parts department (Hendry i think) was so surprised to see my car and said he has never seen one like it here and was telling everyone in the workshop about it, was so funny seeing him.

Good workmanship, friendly workshop with some good advice too.

i wish i have your DIY skill...i used to try "DIY"ing my car, but i stopped once i found that there s always something got broken whenever i DIY. LOL

Better photo of the aluminium rings at night...still loving how it glows the instrument cluster in the dark

p.s: All lights are amber and looks coherent on my cluster, but only my camera's white balance setting changed the colour to slight blue on the bottom bit.

Paddle shift extended paddle DIY

Better photos of the paddle shift replacement

One side changed compared to original paddle

Both side changed

Whole cabin look with the aluminium rings

5201878966_4878652310.jpg

Very easy installation since only 1 torx screw to remove the paddle and install back

The back of the paddles are slightly sharp, I might want to take it out and grind it a bit and smoothes it later.

Some overdue photos

Been uploading some photos earlier so uploaded these photos as well when I took the car out from the port

Car out in front of the Westport gate, still with UK registration

5201867244_3b69726dfa.jpg

Still with UK registration

5201867970_f9755f509d.jpg

Jeng jeng jeng straightaway swap with my booked but not registered Malaysian plates. Otherwise would have to call tow truck to get to Puspakom because its unregistered to use on Malaysian roads.

5201868710_3f9f9aa976.jpg

Waiting to be inspected at Puspakom. Cheap only RM25 to check chassis number, engine number, windows clear or not, and check under the door seals to determine whether kereta potong or not. Later go to JPJ to register the car on the next day.

In front of my in-laws's house. Car very dusty from sitting in the warehouse for couple of months. Still not registered at this point.

Sat Nav Malaysia Singapore Thailand Brunei High Map 2010

Bought the 2010 Sat Nav disc from one of our friendly BMWCM member, now fully working on my system.

5201879578_a0d9a8d318.jpg

To my surprise it is nicely printed, was expecting a blank CD with "Imation' logo or some sort on it. And its the High version which includes POIs (Places of Interests, some sat nav units calls it Points of Interests). I didn't have POIs on my UK map previously.

5201319429_353d1f59f5.jpg

Before inserting the Malaysia map. Blank ground because UK map CD is still inside the system.

5201287677_db56752cb6.jpg

Once the Malaysia map is inserted, Voila! Roads appear on the map.

Testing the route calculation. Seems OK.

5201290989_250edb89e0.jpg

Places of interests menu. Reachable from 'Information' in the sat nav menu.

Go into this

5201292607_f47c40520b.jpg

And you get into this. Seems to have a lot of information in the CD.

5201885050_624df99b6b.jpg

It even have nearest ATM to your current location!

I actually run TomTom and Garmin on my Windows phone, which is a lot more user friendly and easier to use than the outdated BMW system but its nice to have it working in the car. And to get the High version CD is a big bonus for me.

Driver side front wheel bearing replacement

Replaced my driver side front wheel bearing at Bomin Auto Jalan Ipoh since it has been making unbearable noise. Has been advised by mechanic in the UK that it needed replacement but the sound only come recently.

5201888246_1bace9cdf8.jpg

Car jacked up

5201293543_82762162e5.jpg

Very rusty underside since it spent the first six years in Scotland where there's a lot of salt to counter the snow.

5201293993_3f93c2c569.jpg

Took the guy a while to remove the original wheel bearing, even the absorber needs to be taken out

5201295101_8a95d801ef.jpg

The culprit finally out. Very rusty. It can barely move anymore

5201889744_754f219b12.jpg

New front wheel bearing FAG brand. Bomin spare part recommended cheap part only but I insisted on FAG brand. Very expensive in UK.

5201891596_dc015cdaec.jpg

New bearing installed on the car.

Installation took 1 hour, part RM260 with RM50 labour. I'll change the other side when wallet thickness allows.

Van on fire

Met with a van starting to catch on fire last weekend in Selayang, I think the engine overheated and caught fire. When I arrived the guy was screaming for people in the car on the road to help him (he's already out, but hair and hand is a bit burned) so I stopped and gave him my fire extinguisher thats under my seat. Too afraid to go close because of risk of explosion so I gave him the fire extinguisher to try to tackle the fire himself. But by the time the fire is already big, and my fire extinguisher is only 1kg and only suitable for initial fire so its david and goliath fight. The van burned entirely till the end.

Now I need to refill my fire extinguisher when I find a shop that does it.

Nice pics of your ride bro. Nice number plate. 530... :top:

Thanks..cheap only RM210 since 530 is not a special number. 525 is listed as special number, maybe because there are more BMW 525i's on the road.

Hey that's quite cheap! :top: Well worth every ringgit spent then. Haha.

Wow, it's quite amazing just how easily cars catch fire lately. If not mistaken, in the past year, I have seen/read news about car burning more about 5 times. So far two of the cases were Myvis, and another one I saw caught fire from underneath along the Federal Highway was the previous gen Sonata [Jag-lookalike]... Freaky stuff.

You're a very kind soul for helping that poor van owner Haywire.

Wow awesome mate. Haha. Aiyo, in the first place, driving in Malaysia ain't the same as the UK I suppose. Drivers here have a very odd type of mentality. I mean, most. Me included. Sometimes I can be polite, at times, I can be quite a jerk too when I feel a wee bit unhappy that someone's not being polite enough to give way when I am already halfway into the lane. Odd huh.

Win some, lose some I suppose.

I'm happy with it bro! But I'm a bit wondering about my satnav display / system.

Also I put the concern on my thread:

Great!!! I'm happy too... but I'm a bit wondering why my display is not informative, where:

1) The map display is showing from the top instead of the side like yours.
2) I can't retrieve the POI for my journey refference

Is it because of the different software version..?

Mine don't have the perspective view initially, but was activated when I updated the software to latest version v32. Not sure if its compatible with MkIII navs.

For the POI I'm not sure, but I think you need to set the 'Camera Alert' setting to 'On' in the 'Set' menu in the main screen when you push the button 'Menu' on the display. Try that and go into Information in the GPS menu, see whether it has the POIs there.
