For my E36, it is the same, when the engine is real cold, the drive is sluggish. Once the temperature needle touches the middle position, you won't the sluggish drive anymore.

Alternatively, flush your gearbox oil and see if there's any difference.

Bro ,
Did you notice if the gearbox warning lights came out ?
If yes , it could the the ECU .
At this stage of life , our ECUs are known to be intermitten due to
crack solders on one the many ICs in the ECU .
Relatively easy to verify this ...borrow , beg or steal an identical model
ECU & trash the car ...
