Hi guys,Need opinion on my situation, every time my E46N42 climbs hill for example Genting Sempah the temperature will go up to 3/4 mark if I press the car a bit harder than 4000rpm. Once reach the flat area the temperature will go back to 1/2 mark. There's no leak in the cooling system when I checked and all water hoses and expansion tank are new....:43:

When was the last time you change your thermostat and water pump.

Have you check your clutch fan and electric fan?

Thermostat and water pump I think never been change (car year 2002), electric fan works ok. SO far my only mitigation is drive up hill at 80km/h or less

Suggest you send it to your tech and check the cooling coil for the transmission as well ! as it only get's hotter when going up hill...

yes, you do have a point there. The transmission ATF is recirculated and cool thru the radiator as well.

A possibility of overheating could be the heat generated from the GB. There is a possibility that your second thermostat for the GB oil cooler is blocked. get it checked out and replaced. It is located inside/under the expansion tank.

Here is a picture of a broken thermostat for the ATF cooler.

Here is a pic of a good thermostat.

i have a simple question guys. What is normal operating temp of the engine, i mean where is the normal temp indicator point at the temp indicator panel - 1/4, 1/2?. TQ

It is the 1/2 mark

See Pic below.

Thanks a lot Jarance for the advice, never thought about checking the GB oil cooler. Will do it soon before I accidentally blow my GB...will update the result once I open it up

Wondering too if anybody knows how much the cooling coil for the GB, from realoem it does not show any thermostat for the cooling system. One funny thing is even when I push the car to 180-200km/h on flat road the temp still normal....

The reason why your temperature is normal on a flat road at 180-200 km/h is because of forced draft.

F1 car also dont have no cooling fan and they overheat very fast when stationary.

When going up hill, the load/torque on the GB is much higher when compare to running on flat road.

Waaa.....U really open my eyesla bro Jarance....now off to Segambut look for the parts, cooling coil is RM500+ so the part 4 should be around RM100++. If both almost koyak, need to buy both...huhuhuhuhu...

Got my problem fixed, its the right side (from front) part of my radiator. It has 2 minor cracks and at the bottom it was clogged with dirt and restricted the water flow. Good thing my mechanic just replaced this part instead of the whole radiator.
Then flushed, cleaned and pressure tested the cooling system. Now can climb Genting without worries.

I experience in this.Change the radiator, although no leak but a few water lining inside got blocked.
Or try to find a shop to clean it first.

Most workshops will just change the whole radiator, it is just too tedious to take it out, clean it, buy the parts+install, pressure test and put it back again.
