Hi everyone....my E39 525i need help. Recently i notice my car's ABS&ASC light on, and the speedo not working (But RPM working) and gear wont change ( Keep using 3rd or 4th gear all the way). What is wrong? it really makes me headache, somemore CNY coming. :hmmmm2:. Please help me......thanks in advance!

since this is a forum for everyone to discuss i don think its wasted time. wanted to visit workshop but no time as Chinese new year coming soon, of course i will visit the workshop, at least know what's wrong first ....right? thanksssss

so many faulty lights on it seems to be quite serious, you should take to workshop immediately before thing get worst, the earlier you fix it the better and also cheaper before get worst which could cost much more. it is hard to know what went wrong as there could be many reasons, and only the computer diagnostic can trace the root. ABS can be the sensor or the box control, speedo not working would be related to the speed sensor/ABS as well. Looks like the ECU is getting confused info that prevent the gear shift due to the incorrect speed info. Good Luck!

why you ask waste time should go workshop
why you post waste time should go away if cannot help

bmw- could be a asc/dsc controller fault, the unit cannot repair, change 4k.
if it's the ecu might be more costly. i doubt any of these can be repaired- normally change the whole unit. you'll need to take it in for diagnostics mate. I suggest you go to a trustworthy mech as it may be a costly job.. good luck!

FIRST have the car hook up to a diagnostic tool and scan for errors, almost all will show up on the scan. and always start trouble shooting with the least expensive part, dont go shooting off to the mech telling him its the ABS controller, abs module... you are just inviting for your throat to be cut from the mech.

the symptoms describe above is most likely due to a shorted speed sensor. So check on your REAR wheel speed sensor. this are the sensors that provide the reading for the speedo and automatic gearbox EGS module. its also connected to the 4 wheel ABS circuit.

chances are that the the wires are cracked and frayed thus causing a short to the circuit. this is a predominant failure part due to the exposure to the elements and caustic brake dust. the trans failure light could be emitted due to a burn fuse/relay for the EGS unit when the wires shorted.

although the wire are shorted and may look burned, the sensors will still be ok as these are fully sealed passive components. it can be salvage and for a simple fix, you may repair the wire as with any wire connection with some length of wires, soldering iron and heat shrink tubing. on my previous e36, the repaired leftside wires lasted longer than the one that was replaced.

however should you decide to replace the entire sensor, do some precautionary step by shielding the wire from elements with some length of tape or best if you could seal the entire length with heat shrink tubing acting like a extra skin.

If the ASC/ABS + Handbrake light is on.. then it is you ASC control module. It is listed in your car manual topic tell tale lights. Yes, Guru is right...rm4k ++.
If your speedometer does not function I think Leforte is right, it could be the speed sensor. Your gearbox goes to gear 3rd or 4th all the way, I believe it is in safety mode.

Thanks a lot to all of you guys....i sent the car to workshop this morning and the mech told me it's because of the wheel speed sensor front left and right (which caused ABS faulty) and second, the EGS module ( Which caused the speedo fault, therefore gear wont shift) finally it gonna cost me about 3k :( :( and he only able to fix my car after C.N.Y :(

Anyway thanks everyone! you guys really professional, it's exactly like what the mech told me. Really appreciate.
