ABS and ASC light on E39

I think there are differences in E39 models..
1) M52 usually have sensor issues and less percentage of ABS controller fault
2) M54 usually have higher ABS controller fault and less sensor issue. When this happens, error indicates "left wheel sensor failure", change it and works awhile then prob comes back. Then, change ABS controller, most times resolves issue.

So far reading through forums, to resolve
1) M52, check sensor wiring, use heatshrink to proper insulate the cable and resolder if necessary, clean contacts.
2) M54, change ABS controller - for prevention, get proper heatshields to shield heat that comes from engine

E39 ASC + ABS + Electronic Transmission

Hi Everyone,

Need to check whether any of you had experience this. ASC + ABS + Electronic Transmission indicator on. Car having difficulties to move.

I previously had the ASC + ABS on but it goes off by itself.

My Mech came to check (can access to ABS) and reset the system, then everything went well. No indicators on again.

Pls advise do I need to change the ABS sensor or ???

Thanks.

Where's the workshop you go to? Pls advise....thanks

Bro AJE39FIVER, I bought my car as premium selection from AB, so underwarrnty even though my car is 5yrs old at the point of purchase. So repair at AB at their cost... According to them, they change the front & rear ABS sensor, then one more in the dashboard (or behind the meter cluster)

After changed, it never happen anymore.

ABS light being on is a common problem wif E39s. Probably because of the sensor which is located below the drivers seat. Any minor pressure will set it off. Resetting it doesn't help because it'll come back after a few days.

Drive without ASC la. More kick mah......

ABS Control Unit Faulty. in Time your gearbox will lock to 3rd gear safe mode. You will have to change the unit. happen to me I drove all the way from kuantan - Kl in 3rd gear.

Hi all,

The infamoust christmas tree lights happened to me on .... haiz .... couple of days before christmas (3 days after I pick up my car).

My mech told me that it was because of the wiring. Fixed it but came back after couple of days.... sent it in again and d computer now diagnosed it as faulty front right speed sensor ... he said need not change 1st and clean it up for me and ask me to test it out before changing it.

Haiz.... this afternoon lights on again.... think really need to change d sensor now....

I had faced the same issues before, cleaned speed sensors a few times n finally ended up replacing them all..so far no more issues...

I had to change all the sensors over the period of 3 months due to cracked insulators.

Dear bro jerman,
