its funny that one say that the speed limit is obsolete...this shows the lack of understanding safety...its does not matter how fast you can drive, its the speed differential between the fast and the slow moving vehicle...even now at 110kmh, there are so many fatal accident on the highway because we still have ppl driving at 60kmh...lorries and busses who are travelling at 90kmh has no choice but to overtake these slow vehicle causes danger to oncoming high speed vehicle...imagine the extra risks that comes when the speed limit is raised without educating and putting a lowest speed a vehicle can travel restriction...

not everyone could drive fast so if u can do it at your own risk and remember not to cause or pose risk to other road user..,

All laws are irrelevant if there is no proper enforcement.

Look at most motorcyclist, they are above the law.

..I believe that your statement is valid in world of theory..in real world it seems that 'rely on to responsible manner' makes no sense, since Malaysia for instance is pretty much No.1 i car accidents deaths, worldwide, if im not mistaken..also, sole purpose of 110km/h limit is not about cars capability to do higher or not..its about consistent flow of traffic without clogging...equalized flow will cause larger transfer capacity...one goes random (road runners), causing for sure clogging, even it sounds as paradox, considering that its caused by 'speeders'..

I agree with most of what you said, but doing 110kmh on the rightmost lane on a highway in your big Range Rover, you are the random one....did you realise that? You are not protecting anyone since you know they (and me) will go round you on the left lane which are more dangerous.

Just a note. France have a normal speed limit of 130kmh, but 110kmh when it rains. Still I've got a few speed fines there hehehehe.

Doubt UK will increase the speed limit, when I left some politicians are actually trying to lower the speed limit for emission purposes.

I agree with t2ribena on the lowest speed allowed.
I travel north ,south and Kuantan alot for work and monthly Balik kampung to Penang from kl.
Majority of the dangerous times I faced on the highway is 1) slow drivers on the left lane that force lorries and other cars to overtake(and ur nicely coming on the right @ 150kmh oops dam there a lorry in front of u) . 2) 110kmh right lane hoggers.
During the holidays u get massive long slow moving right lane coz these ppl stay 110kmh on the right.
So what do ppl do? Overtake on the left and the zig zag game begins.
Stay on the left if u wanna cruise at 110kmh, the right lane is for overtaking and law breakers!

The law breakers are not the ones causing the clogging...
It's the 110kmh right/fast lane hoggers...

..if im cruising at 110km/h, and if that speed is the limit (means u SHOULDNT go over that), how possibly I can be 'random one' ? Im already at the peak of allowed speed, therefore i cant be possible cause for clogging..only situation when i move myself is when i see emergency hospital vehicle or similar situation..other than that I cruise steady at the top of the allowed speed..by all means, only one who should be called 'guilty' are those speeders..

Exactly the mentality of the average lane hoggers, the argument of maximum allowable speed.

Next time you put on your auto cruise at 110kmh on the right, keep counting how many people overtakes you on the left. Compare that with the number of people that stayed behind your back.

..number of people whos overtaking shows how many of them actually breaking the rule...not me..im doing exactly what road rule says..and I see no problem with that..if you think that its fine to go faster that that because particular persons require it, it has no value due fact that its simple..outside of given conditions...I will 100% agree with everything you said regarding hogging, if I keep right lane and driving slower than peak limit..i really don't understand what 'exuse' you pointing at , considering that by all means, Im not doing anything outside proposed rules on the road.

I'm not saying you are right and I am wrong, its obvious that I'm the one breaking the law, and so are others, but the majority of cars on the right lane on a highway doing 130-150kmh. So when you said 'one goes random', you are actually pointing at yourself.

Thats all I'm saying.

Anyway I know you're a nice guy, but I'm a constant speeder and absolutely hate lane hoggers. No hard feelings, just a nice little argument hehehe.

Are we now talkin about the theory world instead of the real world?
I'm confused...

..nahh..its ok, i didnt take anything personally la :) .. its just talkie, so im trying to explain, why I see no problem in cruising at limit peak, and usually because mid lane is slower that that..long as mid lane is clear Ill cruise limit peak there, but 90% times, is actually slower, so i take right one and cruising there..then i get many flashing or horns but in such case, good old Pink Floyd and 'Shine on you crazy diamond' with volume at 10 do its job :) heheheheh

..well..in theory I will be pride and honor of BMW club malaysia for such nice road rule respecting, but in real world Im a hogger because of same reason :)

Yes I am, at least twice a day.

How many of us are law abiding citizens, and actually adhere to the 110km/h speed limit on the highways. My guess is many, including I, do not as it is terribly and extremely hard to do so.

Therefore, are we no longer considered good citizens because we break every single speeding law there is in the country when we get into our rides onto the highways? Or more precisely to the point, do you not think the 110km/h speed limit is totally outdated and irrelevant because a lot of modern cars are designed to run effectively above 110 and at the same time aren't our highways capable of handling cars running above that speed limit?

Every so often on the KESAS, I see myvis, vios and even vivas hogging the fast lane at 110 or 120km/h refusing to give way even after countless of friendly flashes. Eventually, I get 'almost' pissed off but after a split-second of consciousness kicks in, these people are legally right in refusing to give way because there are already traveling at the maximum speed. I, on the other hand, is attempting to break the law by going above the ridiculous 110kh/h speed limit.

Many of us buy a higher CC car because of the better HP and Torque, and we are happy to pay for the higher road tax. But then again, what use is paying higher road tax when we can't use the features that we are paying high premium, and by using these 'paid' higher features we are actually breaking the law? Something to think about, doesn't it?

So I'll flash and horn you next time I see a Range Rover hogging the lane, but I'll wave once I get past you on the left.

Just kidding, I never flash or horn hoggers, normally I just carefully move to the middle lane and floored it to express my objection.

One question, Ecco, you always talk about getting a 5.0 engine in your Z4, it puzzles me now, when you're ever gonna need it?

Floor it from 0 to 110 in 5 seconds and put on auto cruise?

on federal roads, i obey the speed limit and drives mundanely, lifeless.......but on the highways, my feet is just too heavy which in turn makes me alert and very responsive. by that i broke the law.....

Safety concerns aside...Then again, isn't this a classic example of gomens around the world not doing their job effectively? Why allow cars which can travel higher than the permissible legal speed to even be made and sold legally when it is not even legal to drive at those higher speeds?

Plus, why the need for car manufacturers to advertise the car's maximum speed when no one can ever implement a proof of concept legally on the road.

The advertise is only for higher up in gomen, not lower wages in gomen or outside gomen.

Which remind me, on my way back to Cyberjaya from kampung. Spotted police escorting few supercar at 140+.

On side note, quote i took from some forum, "Intelligent politicians are like fairies and unicorns, they don't exist and never have."

Heh heh.
