Hi GuysI just got a E60 520i from AB. Just logged 2,000km. Felt underpowered, have to stamp the accelerator hard to gather momentum. Will the acceleration improve after a longer period of running in? Any suggestion to improve the pick up?

Try ECU remapping. The newer version of remapping is "stealth" in nature and won't void your warranty.

Yes, the engine will loosen up in the coming months - on top of that, you will get more familiar with the characteristics of the car and hence will be able to get more out of it. Try using Sports-mode for point-to-point driving, only using Normal-mode for relaxed expressway cruising ..... :) If all else fails, get the 525i :D

The engine should loosen up but for BMWs, it takes a whopping long time. From my own experience, it took 10,000 kms before I felt optimal performance, dunno why!

Is it??!! I didn't know the engine will work better as the 'age'?!! amazing .. what would be the optimum age then?!! :D
In my case, I always knew that for a beemer, anything below 2500cc is underpowered.. worth more than the additional costs incurred for higher road tax & insurance etc etc..

Is this kind of remapping available for E34 and E39?

I'm not a technical guru so perhaps others can explain better. I recall someone complaining a new E46 325i could only hit 160 kmh on the second day of delivery. But this improved over time.

Hi funfer_fahrer

Do you have the contact number/name of the person/workshop who can perform the ECU remapping? Any idea what's the price?

Any member familiar with this route to improve the power?

u r not goin to gain anything wit petrol engine re map. diesal yes huge gains. just enjoy smooth engine. my two cents. done re map on 328ci before.trust me it was a waste. so called 10hp. .. cant feel it/

Ya engine will loosen up and get better given another few thousand kms. I've driven the M54 2.2 E60 520i and while it wasn't exactly an aderenalin rush, it was relaxed, composed and decent in terms of getting from point A to B. Depending on you as a driver, it may not be enough to satisfy your driving pleasure due to the lack of oomph.

I just got the flyer from AB on their year end promotions. The E60 525d comes with the same M bodykit and rims as the 525i SE and is now priced down from Rm388k to Rm355k with the pre-reg. I have read a lot of good things about the BMW diesel.. and with the bodykit and all, it looks great as well.

With improved diesel quality, I think now it worth to own the 525d or even 530d. I have no problem with it. It is indeed a good car

How's the 523i comparatively tho? I would like to test drive this unit someday. I heard from a lot of ex-520i owners that they find the 2.5L 190 bhp power to be a quantum leap in terms of performance i.e. smooth as baby's bottom yet a lot more oomph and urgency in torque delivery. The price (new) of RM348K doesn't seem bad too but I also wonder how much to add M-Sports kit.

juan i think the current batch of 523 in m'sia should still be at 177bhp, the 190 bhp in the facelifted model should come later..yup its creamy smooth...the M kit you can get for 7.5k with installation...mine coming in 2 weeks...hehe...lokeck wanna change to m kit?

I'm sure we have all heard of the old adage, "there is no replacement for displacement". Looks like this is still true to a large extent, despite new technologies such as vanos, valvetronic, variable intake/exhaust geometry, etc...

If it was up to me, the 530d would be my pick. Tons of torque + unbelievable fuel economy. never mind the diesel clatter...

OIC... my friend who's working in Spore just collected his car and drove it back to KL over the last weekend. I was mightily impressed with how good it looks with MSports kit. I had to tail him in my E90 325i loaner and altho we were not going all out cos of traffic, this E60 had very very decent pick up with the 190 bhp. I remembered thinking to myself I might not have to frame up my racerboy helmet when I get my E92 which has a similar engine! Anyways, my friend is ridiculously happy with his E60! and I'm pleased too cos he always favored the Merc while in KL.

yes bro with the M bodykit it really makes the car look standout...so when you're collecting yr e92?

It should be middle of next week. I'm feeling much better now that I've seen the car and all that's needed is Puspakom check and registration.

BTW, since MSports kit is only an option on the 523i in Malaysia, how much issit to do the full works to make it look like the 525i? I would think it's about RM20K or so?
