Hi all X5 brother, I'm planning to buy a 2nd hand X5, ( i also thinking for xc90 2.9t, prado 3.0 and harrier 2.4, but more preffer is X5) My budget is 200K++, But may i know the Maintainance is expensive or not for this car? Coz I drive about 5-6K k/m for 2month, how about you all spend the money on your X5 each month?for sport version come with 19inch tires, the tire is expensive o not? 3.0I fuel is how much per k/m? thanks.

I own harrier 2.4 - maintenance free. I also own E60 - need a lot of maintenance. As long as u own bimmer then be prepared to set aside maintenance fee for your car

Actually I not really got problem for the 2-3 month each time service like change motor oil, filter... coz this i thinks will only cost me few hundred. for the tires, i thinks will be double the cost for me now, I will change 4 tires every year, is about RM2K, but this 19" i thinks will take me about RM5k.

For me, what i really scare is the car is 2nd hand and old already, i thinks will buy about year 2004, the suddenly happen like this month dunno which part oil leaking, next month dunno what longgak and bla bla every month.. so every month need to prepare another few thousand for this then cannot tahan.

sounds familiar to all 2nd hand continental makes.... sometimes even new ones

if dont want headache, got to go Jap

Cypee,

If you plan to buy a BMW, prepare approximate RM 2k every month for service other than your pay off of monthly installment, insurance, petrol...etc.

I wanted to purchase X5 before my current 525 E60, trust me, X5 maintenance are 20-30% more expensive than normal ones,

So, if want Beemer, it'll Broke Your Wallet =)

funny replies becuz my beemer is actually the most reliable car i had since 20 years of driving. the worst was an aussie car. after that was a volvo. then my honda acccord. perdana v6. camry. beemer is no 1.
to say all japs cars are reliable is a myth. many cars today are built with similar technology. only ignorant fools keep repeating old stories.

I don't think i m the only "fool" with same opinion here

I guess some of us have had different experiences. SLidetaker has abviously had no problems with his/her BMW, and many of us have, hence the comments made above.

I for one also did not have any problems with my car (apart from an ignition coil going wrong and easily replaced), but then again I only had my car for 8 months before selling it on for an RM7k profit (coz I got it cheap as a repo car)

i drive a XC90 T6 (2.9L TwinTurbo 6-Cyclinder). great and powerful 7-seater car. beats my cousin's 3.0 X5 anytime in terms of performance, maintenance, features, space & practicality.

what about x5 diesel 3.0 diesel, any one have any experience which diesel the best suited for the car,is it from petronas, shell or caltex, please advise your experience?

Ben,

Nowadays, Petronas and Shell have a slight improvement in the diesel product and my X5 drinks it without any black smoke during picking up.

as always, when u buy a bmw used you need to do all the services as outlined in owners manual...inspection 1 and 2 will include changing of all hoses and belts..send to a good bmw mechanic and spend this money...after which the car will be reliable and just follow up with regular servicing at 12000kms...this is my experience..regards

I support you bro. I do have a used e39 525 2 years back and didn't give me much problem. i think just make sure any wear n tear change right on time before it worsen any other parts, bmw will last u long.

Many people mistaken European cars will cost much compared with Jap...yes in terms of petrol and spare parts - lets compare a E36 with a Toyota SEG , same class and around same cc....yes true the Jap cars 'chop shop parts are easy to find and maintainence is piece of cake.....

But when it comes to newer cars like Camry 2003/2004/2005 i just seen one guy just broke his cam shaft and now has to do a cylinder head replaced bcoz of broken block...so how much it cost? 10K. SO Jap cars it aint cheap after all....
and another car- Honda City IDSL- overhaul bcoz of worn piston rings and shaft....- cost- 4k coz the parts hard to be found at chop shop..

in the end- look into ur wallet..if want easy way out.easy to maintaine- maybe Jap cars......and ur dream- BMW is ultimate driving machine.... Jap cars may have the horses to satisfy u...but u know the difference when u hear the engine roars...the feel of the steering....the feel of the handling.... the driving experience is never being replaced by the Japs....NEVER....
